North Canterbury Basketball

North Canterbury Basketball North Canterbury Basketball | Founded in 1981 by Len Rollinson, we’re a community-focused association based in North Canterbury, NZ.

Proudly wearing our maroon and white, we are dedicated to promoting basketball and supporting players of all ages. North Canterbury Basketball Association is a non-for-profit organisation, aimed at encouraging the tamariki, rangatahi of North Canterbury to pursue a more active lifestyle through sport and physical recreation that would lead to a fitter, healthier and more caring community. North Ca

nterbury Basketball Association was born out of a vision to bring about a positive change by providing every person the opportunity to participate in an active, healthy lifestyle through basketball and other forms of physical activity. We believe this will produce fit, healthy, and active people who will make positive choices, daring to pursue their dreams and maximising their potential for positive, fulfilling lives. We want to engage our tamariki, rangatahi to embrace new activities, challenge them to get off the couch or street, and start down the active and healthy journey that basketball offers. We believe this will encourage our tamariki, rangatahi to become prosperous citizens, connected with and committed to their community. We believe that given the opportunity, more of our youngsters have the potential to become future sporting champions. We want to identify those talented young people who, with support and encouragement, could follow in the footsteps of North Canterbury's many sporting greats and accomplish their own extraordinary feats. Collaborating with the many schools, clubs, sponsors in the community, we are confident that we can build greater social cohesion and community pride. We are determined to make a difference. Our vision is to Create a lifetime of opportunities for our tamariki, rangatahi by making a positive impact on their lives by providing accessible sports and physical recreation experiences. This promotes character development, life enhancing values, good health, and community cohesion. We need your support if you want to become a sponsor please email Matt Cunninghame: [email protected] and we can have a chat over a coffee.

Huge congratulations to Jake Holmes on his commitment to continue his basketball journey at the UC San Diego, California.

Jake has represented North Canterbury as a player, referee and just recently assistant coach to our U18 Boys representative team.
Jake has also been a key part of the Rangiora Senior Boys basketball programme over the years, making a huge impact as a player and this year stepping into an assistant coaching role to help guide the next generation.

He also been a familiar face within our BNZ Kiwi Hoops programme, where so many of our tamariki have loved learning from him and will definitely miss his giant presence around the stadium.

We’re incredibly proud to see him take the next step.

Wishing Jake all the best as he begins this exciting new chapter with the Tritons in San Diego.

Always your biggest supporters! 🔱🏀🇳🇿🇺🇸

🌿 Huge congratulations to our very own North Canterbury legend, Esra McGoldrick! 🌿

Born and raised right here in NC, Esra continues to make us incredibly proud. Being named Basketball New Zealand’s Female Player of the Year for 2025 is another massive milestone in an already outstanding career.

💙 But the celebrations don’t stop there! 🎉

A huge congratulations to Esra and her whānau on welcoming their beautiful baby boy.

Your NC whānau are celebrating you every step of the way. We can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes you, both on the court and in motherhood. 🏀 💙
