Hey team, we still need your help with our Queenstown Winter SouperHeroes campaign! 🦸

And right now we reeeeeeally need clean, empty ice cream tubs!! (with lids). The square tubs - see below - are ideal 💚 (no yoghurt tubs, please)

You’ll find our KiwiHarvest trolley at the entrance of PAK'nSAVE Queenstown, this where you can drop them.

These tubs will be filled by local chefs with nourishing soups & stews made from surplus ingredients, then frozen and delivered out into the community.

Thank you!!

Volunteers are the literal heartbeat of KiwiHarvest, and ours come from everywhere!

Students, parents, working pros, and a whole crew of retirees who somehow have more energy than the rest of us combined 😆💚

At the moment we’ve got 21 regular volunteers:
🚲 e-bike collections in the CBD and Frankton
🚚 morning truck support runs
🌱 and in Wānaka, our volunteers use Lily the truck - running the whole collection circuit like absolute champs

On top of that, we’re lucky to have staff from Mackersy Property, Holiday Inn Queenstown Remarkables Park, and Crowne Plaza Queenstown volunteering with us on a regular rotation.

It’s a reminder that food rescue takes a whole village, and we’re incredibly grateful for every single person who shows up, no matter their age or background, to help get good food where it’s needed most.

Total legends. 💚

Bit of a difference, hey?

When $100 is donated to KiwiHarvest Queenstown & Central Lakes, we can rescue and share a whole lot more food than that same $100 would buy at the supermarket.

We’re not buying food off supermarket shelves, we’re rescuing good food already in the system and getting it to where it’s needed most.

That means a small donation can help rescue more food and get more of it to people who need it.

So if you’re in a position to donate, even a small amount helps us keep good food moving across Queenstown & Central Lakes, to those who need it. 💚

🦸 Remarkables Primary School really got behind our SouperHeroes winter campaign!

For their non-uniform day, students skipped the usual gold coin donation and brought in canned food and empty ice cream tubs instead.

And the final tally was a beauty:

💚 517 cans of food
💚 244 empty ice cream tubs

The cans will help support locals this winter, and the tubs will go to local restaurants to be filled with soups and stews for the community.

Gary also popped in to chat with the senior students about easy ways to reduce food waste at home, and came away pretty blown away by the generosity of these young legends and their families.

🦸 The junior students got involved too, creating their own food-themed SouperHeroes in a colouring competition!

What a bunch of SouperHeroes - making a massive impact!!

You can help us out by dropping (in-date & unopened) tinned soups or stews in our KiwiHarvest trolley at the front of PAK'nSAVE Queenstown 💚

We've got more than 500kg of meat to donate to our charities! 🦌

💚 We want to give a massive thank you to the Southern Lakes Branch NZDA, who recently headed down to a hunting competition in Te Anau and spent the whole day, and well into the night, processing meat so it could be shared with our locals.

Because of their hard mahi (work), KiwiHarvest Queenstown & Central Lakes will be able to distribute over half a tonne of venison mince this winter.

🙌 Half a tonne!! 🙌

We’ve already had some beautiful backstraps go out to recipients too, helping create hearty, nourishing meals for people across the region.

🙏 A huge thanks also to Queenstown Airport, whose grant helped cover the mincing and sticker costs, making sure this incredible donation could be processed, packed and ready to go.

This is such a good example of local people, local skills and local support all coming together to make something really meaningful happen.

🦌 To the Southern Lakes Deer Stalkers Association team, thank you. What an effort.

Goodbyeeeee Léna! 😥👋

Friday was the last time we dropped off food at Happiness House Queenstown-Community Support Centre with Léna as its manager, as she's off on new adventures.

Léna has been an absolute force for good in this community - she's helped strengthen food support across the region, welcomed people with care and dignity, and played a big part in making Happiness House the trusted community pillar it is today!

Food rescue only works when there are great people and organisations on the other end, making sure good food gets to where it’s needed most. Léna has been one of those people, and then some.

💚 So thank you, Léna, for everything you’ve poured into Happiness House, food security and the wider Queenstown community.

We’ll miss seeing you on the drop-offs, but we’re cheering you on for whatever comes next.

Absolute legend.

Gary was up at the KiwiHarvest head office recently celebrating a pretty epic milestone! 💚

KiwiHarvest teams around Aotearoa New Zealandrescued and distributed a massive 4 million kilos of food in just one year!

We’re really proud to be doing our bit here in Queenstown & Central Lakes, and are very aware that this kind of thing only happens because of a whole lot of people showing up, pitching in, and supporting the mahi (work).

Huge thanks to our local team, volunteers, supporters, sponsors and charity partners.

This milestone belongs to all of us.

Welcome to the KiwiHarvest ✨ Vol of Fame ✨, Liz Mcclean, who has been a crucial cog in our machine for 8 years!

Liz has volunteered since the brilliant Lucy was our branch manager, and then when Kayleigh took over and has continued throughout Gary’s time!

She is an absolute hero and KiwiHarvest Queenstown & Central Lakes wouldn’t be the same without her.

Thank you, Liz, for your continued passion for getting more food to those who need it, and reducing the amount of food sent to landfill.

💚 You’re the best!

(and thanks Happiness House Queenstown-Community Support Centre for hosting our surprise!)

KiwiHarvest rescued a whopping 4 million kilos of food across Aotearoa New Zealand in just one year! 💚 That's getting good kai (food) to people who need it instead of letting it go to waste.

It's been a huge effort, and it only happens because of the many growers, food businesses, volunteers, supporters, community groups and everyday SouperHeroes who keep showing up.

And while that’s definitely worth celebrating, the need behind the number is very real.

👇 This RNZ article talks about the shift from a “cost of living crisis” to the cost to survive, and here in Queenstown & Central Lakes, we know those pressures can feel pretty full on.

That’s why it’s so important that we keep rescuing good food here in our region, food that would otherwise go to waste, and get it to local people and community organisations who need it.

It’s not the whole answer, but it is something real we can do, right here, together.

🦸 If you want to help keep the goodness moving, you can become a SouperHero by dropping tinned soups and stews into our KiwiHarvest trolley at PAK'nSAVE Queenstown .

Check out what the Wakatipu Playcentre tamariki (kiddos) created with the beetroot we delivered! 🫜

With a bit of help from the grown-ups, the beetroot was turned into jars of pickled goodness using recycled jars from home.

Nothing was wasted either as they saved the leftover beetroot water to use as a natural dye for playdough and tie-dye projects!

Most of the jars have headed home with families, and one’s being saved to share together when they learn about the Matariki star Tupuānuku, which celebrates food from the ground. 🫜

💚 Huge thanks to Lorraine and the team at Frankton Playcentre for turning our kai (food) into something even more fun, and to New Zealand Food Network for getting the beetroots to us!
