The information about how to manage blocked ducts and mastitis changed a while ago, but sometimes it can take a while for new information to filter through :-)

💜 Use cool packs or frozen vegetables wrapped in a cloth on the breast. Use of heat is no longer recommended (but ok to do if it feels better)
💜 Use very gentle stroking to help alleviate engorgement... as gentle as if you were stroking your baby's face. Firm massage will damage the breast tissue and make things worse.
💜 Keep feeding to your baby's natural cues. If you need to express, only express to your baby's feeding pattern; there is no need to remove extra milk.
💜 Rest and take medication to relieve pain and inflammation.
💜 Take sunflower lecithin to help reduce blocked ducts.
💜 Take probiotics to help balance your microbiome.
💜 Seek support from a breastfeeding specialist.
💜 See your GP or go to Urgent Doctors/ED if you have a fever, have redness spreading or do not feel that things are improving.
