Did you know that snails spit out foamy mucus bubbles when stressed, irritated or threatened...we probably all know some kids (or adults) who do the same 😅.... In such an event, the snail likes us to give it some space in a safe area and avoid handling (probably also the best approach with spitting humans). We learnt this at the reserve this week where we came across loads of snails. Check out the captions under the photos to see what else has been happening this week.

There's always something exciting going on!
Last week we had 3 awesome kids all take the plunge to lead an activity and manage group dynamics - which is great for developing communication, confidence, problem solving, resilience.... We had a Sketch Class led by Miss S; a Nature School Money Hunt with compasses led by Mr T; and Survival Game led by Miss A.
Of course, there was also the usual variety of imaginative endeavours and experimental creations...!!

Our friendly caterpillar, who grows longer by the week, has finally been named "Sunny" thanks to our fair and just random-selection decision-making system. A rather cheerful name for this time of year! Let's see how long we can get her to grow!

Last week was another awesome week of leadership and teamwork activities, with Mr B leading a successful game of football (including problem-solving how to retrieve wayward balls that flew off into the stream and swamp). And Mr T had the group construct boats for races down the stream - amazing fun where we debated why some boats floated down faster than others.. Bring on this week's challenges!

We have cool stuff happening this term on Wednesdays as we develop our leadership and teamwork skills and traits - Last week Miss Z showed us her communication skills by leading the group in some first rate Olympic Games including the iconic gumboot throw (very appropriate around here) and the paper plane aerodynamics challenge and we won't mention the face-plants in the wheelbarrow racing. And we had Mr L demonstrate his creativity and commitment in his freshly invented game of TnT tag 🤩. Amazing.

Our friend Silky is amazing at helping us develop care and respect and thoughtfulness. She's had a quiet week and I bet she's looking forward to giving and receiving some love and attention tomorrow and Thursday as we start up for the term!

Toffee apples on the fire; loads of pumice boats; bubble blowing; pizza and lolly shops; flint and steel success; a couple of rainy downpours; log balancing time trials; painting a caterpillar; paddling in the stream; patting Silky; sawing and drilling...just a few of the good times had during the first week of the Holiday Programme 😀. Well, I think we all felt fairly chuffed and triumphant around here this week! Check out how those cheese, kawakawa and plantain scones turned out 😋. And the rolling pin deserves an extra special mention, it's a magnificent piece of craftsmanship, thanks to Mr E (and a little help from Mr F). There was a lot of creative stuff going on this week 😀.
