This little stunner has been hanging around the kowhai flowers and enjoying our nectar water lately - a sure sign of spring, along with the paradise ducklings who were frolicking around on the pond this afternoon 🐣. I hope they stick around for us to admire at the Holiday Programme next week! 🦆

🔆 Last Wednesday was such a great day of soaking up the sun and enjoying nature!

🔆 Much of the day consisted of playing in the stream and the mud. A bridge was built and a muddy pool/spa pool/giant bowl of mushroom soup/chocolate pond/the nest of a large creature was created and a pipe installed (see below).

🔆 I witnessed: creativity, teamwork, problem solving, scientific thinking, fun, communication, experimentation, risk-taking, perseverance, exploring with the senses and so much more - all with just a bit of water and mud.. 🥰

6y/o: "I think I'll try putting my bare feet in the mud, it might be relaxing......it is, it feels so good!"

My chainsaw and I had some unexpected work on our hands today, thanks to the wind and rain toppling a tree yesterday. There's something exciting about a fallen tree, so now it's safe enough for eager viewing by little pairs of eyes this week.

This term's Wednesday crew are investigating and thinking about what Life Lessons we can learn from nature, which is developing our metaphorical thinking. So far, Miss Z has likened humans to fleas (see photo); Miss S has brought out all sorts of metaphors in her amazing poem (see photo); our tendency for fight, flight or freeze has been compared to sharks teeth by Mr T; Mr L had us pondering how, like possums we carry with us those who we care about; and we take after beavers when build our lives by working together according to Mr R.. Amazing and interesting stuff!

I know it’s winter but that doesn’t often hold us back around here!
