In Cheuteal Jrom, over the past three months, 4 more deep wells have been installed, 10 families received water filters, 10 families received latrines, the HOPE section of the village road was completed, and the first 4 cows were distributed through the Animal Bank.

Behind every number is a family with a little more opportunity than they had before.

This is community development — one step, one family and one opportunity at a time.

A hand up, not a handout.

This simple phrase has shaped the way HOPE NZ works for more than 20 years.

We believe lasting change happens when communities are empowered, not dependent.

That means listening before acting. Our Cambodian team work alongside local leaders. It means equipping families with skills, knowledge, and resources and supporting communities to take ownership of their future.

Our role is not to create reliance. It is to help remove barriers so people can thrive through their own hard work and determination.

That is why every well, every home garden, every latrine, every road, and every future school is part of something bigger than a construction project. They are opportunities for communities to build a better future for themselves.

In Cheuteal Jrom, we are seeing exactly that happen.

Real, measurable change is happening in Cheuteal Jrom.

Since this project began, families who once struggled through the dry season are now building healthier, more stable futures. Progress is not just being planned. It is happening.

The project is now 58% complete:
8 of 12 wells completed
22 of 50 home gardens established
40 of 50 latrines completed
2km of road constructed

Every step forward creates new opportunities for children, families, and the wider community. But there is still more work ahead, and we need your support to finish what we started.

Water is changing everything in Cheuteal Jrom.

Since our project began in September 2025, 8 of the 12 planned deep wells have already been completed, bringing clean, reliable water to more than 300 people.

For families who once walked long distances for unsafe water, this changes daily life in ways that are hard to imagine. Children spend less time collecting water. Families are entering the dry season with greater security. Home gardens are beginning to grow, creating food and future income.

This is not short-term aid. This is sustainable, community-led transformation.

And we are only just getting started.

There is still more to complete, and we need your help to continue bringing lasting change to Cheuteal Jrom.

What a difference a year can make.

When we visited Cheuteal Jrom in early 2025, many families were facing extreme hardship. Food was scarce, water was difficult to access, and daily life was uncertain.

The goal was never just to respond in the moment, but to support long-term, sustainable change.

Today, through the work of HOPE Cambodia and the generosity of supporters, we are seeing that change take place. Clean water, growing crops, and greater stability for families.

Education is the next step in creating lasting change.

In Cheuteal Jrom, foundations are being laid for a stronger future. As families gain stability through clean water, food security, and improved health, new opportunities begin to emerge. One of the most powerful is access to education.

A local school would mean more than classrooms. It would mean consistency, safety, and the chance for children to learn without the barriers they face today.

Clean water is opening doors in Cheuteal Jrom.

Families are growing food through the dry season, children are healthier, and access to hygiene, roads, and opportunity is steadily improving. What was once daily uncertainty is being replaced with stability and hope.

This progress is community led and future focused. It is the result of local leadership, long term partnership, and supporters who believe lasting change starts from the ground up.

Early in November, a new well was completed in Cheuteal Jrom. Just days later, families began planting the seeds provided through this project, turning clean water into the beginnings of food, income, and stability.

In a season where uncertainty sits heavy across parts of Cambodia, these moments of progress matter even more. Clean water brings security. Gardens bring nourishment. Local leadership brings strength.
