What's the Buzz? 🐝

Although it's still a little chilly for the chubby little pollinators to be out and about just yet, the teams at House of Science NZ and Zonda have been hard at work solving some problems.
The live bumblebee hives we used to send out caused some problems. They were sent to the branch managers house, who then needed to deliver to schools. A week later we needed to collect them and courier them back to Zonda. It was rather time consuming for everyone involved. As well as being stressful to some students when they needed to say goodbye to the bumblebees.

The new hives will be couriered directly to the schools where your students can watch them through a viewing screen in the top of the new hive. After a couple of weeks the hive can be put in a sheltered spot in the school garden (or home garden if the school isn't an option). A little door can be opened and the bumble bees will explore the local area by day, returning to the hive at night.

Once all the bees have left the hive, everything, except the viewing screen can be recycled.

Last week, our branch received a new science resource kit. Although it is only available until the end of the year, rest assured that it is merely being upgraded - Watch this space for whats coming next 😉🙌

This is what I was up to last week - Lots of Laughs, Learning, great conversations & net working went on! We are excited for what the next year brings us 🙌

What a week! We’ve just wrapped up our annual House of Science conference, a special time for our staff from across the motu to connect, collaborate, and share ideas.

This year we also celebrated 12 years of going strong. We’re so proud of everything we’ve accomplished, and each year we push forward, working hard to collectively empower teachers in Aotearoa to deliver engaging, hands-on science lessons.

A big thank you to all of our dedicated team and board members. To those who couldn’t join us, we missed you! More highlights from the week to come.
