Relationship status: it's complicated 🐧

Kororā (little blue penguins) are known for forming long-term pair bonds, but partner swaps do happen from time to time. Looking at this trail camera photo Field Team Member Billie came across recently, we're not going to speculate... 👀

Date night, kororā edition?

As Predator Free New Brighton continues to grow from strength to strength, we’re incredibly grateful for the support helping us expand our work across the peninsula.
A huge thank you to Gift Collective for coming on board as our umbrella fiscal host. Their support helps provide greater transparency and accountability around funding, donations, and how resources are used in the field.
We’d also like to thank Genera Biosecurity for once again backing us with a second year of support. Ongoing confidence from organisations already familiar with our work means a great deal to us.
And thank you to the Christchurch City Council Environmental Partnership Fund for supporting our aims as we continue rolling out trapping, monitoring, and community-led conservation efforts across New Brighton and beyond.
We’re still here, still growing, and still working toward a predator-free peninsula.
Watch this space.

A few tracks from a wander around the beach last night.
Not all footprints in the sand are good news — rats, stoats and hedgehogs are still moving through the dunes — but mixed in with them were some very welcome visitors too.
That’s the reason for the traps and predator control signs you might see around New Brighton. It’s not about taking nature away — it’s about making room for the right nature to come back.

Not today ma'am. This is a restricted area. Consistently we're getting just juvenile possum.
