Sometimes the most important thing you do today won't be on your to-do list.

It might be:

Eating lunch.

Drinking some water.

Going for a short walk.

Standing in the sunshine for five minutes.

Calling someone who fills your bucket.

Going to bed a little earlier.

As adults, we are often so busy supporting others that we forget our own nervous systems need care too.

We cannot pour from an empty cup.

Our brains need safety.
Our brains need connection.
Our brains need rest.

Looking after yourself isn't selfish.

It's biological.

The more regulated we are, the more available we become for the people we care about.

So tonight,
Slow down.

Breathe.

Your nervous system matters too.

One Week Left to Secure Your Place | Prof Judith Howard in Nelson

In just one week's time, internationally respected educator, researcher, and author Professor Judith Howard will be joining us in Nelson.

The response from educators, leaders, RTLB, health professionals, social service providers, and community organisations has been incredible. In fact, we have already increased venue capacity to accommodate demand and ensure more people have the opportunity to attend.

If you have been thinking about joining us, now is the time to secure your place.

Judith's work is transforming how educators and organisations understand behaviour, attendance, wellbeing, inclusion, trauma, and learning. Her ability to translate complex neuroscience into practical, everyday strategies has made her one of the most respected voices in this field internationally.

Whether you work in education, health, social services, youth support, leadership, or simply care deeply about supporting children, young people, and the adults who walk alongside them, this is a rare opportunity to learn from someone who has helped shape trauma-aware and neuroscience-informed practice around the world.

At BrainHug, Judith's work has deeply influenced our own understanding of relational neuroscience, belonging, and learning. To have her sharing her knowledge here in Aotearoa is both a privilege and an opportunity not to be missed.

Because when we understand the brain, we better understand behaviour.

And when we better understand behaviour, we create environments where people feel safe, connected, and ready to learn.

At BrainHug, we are passionate about helping people better understand themselves, each other, and the remarkable brains we all carry.

That's why we are excited to see these conversations gaining momentum.

Educator wellbeing, belonging, emotional regulation, resilience, connection, and relationships are not "nice to haves" they are foundational to healthy learning environments and thriving communities.

The more we learn about neuroscience, the more hopeful we become.

Human beings are incredibly adaptable. Our brains are constantly changing, growing, and responding to the environments and relationships around us.

At BrainHug, we believe we are only just beginning to scratch the surface of what becomes possible when individuals, schools, families, workplaces, and communities develop a shared understanding of how our brains work.

This is an important conversation with BrainHug founder Emma Hunter

It is also a hopeful one.

Together, we can continue building communities where people feel understood, connected, supported, and empowered to grow.

After all, neurons that fire together, wire together.

And perhaps that reminds us of something important:

We are stronger together.

The question isn't:

"What's wrong with this child...this adult...this human?"

The question is:

"Which brain is online right now?"

Survival?
Emotional?
Thinking?

Understanding changes everything.

The Tuatara survived for millions of years by slowing down.

In a world that tells us to hurry, our nervous systems are asking us to do the opposite.

Slow down.
Connect.
Regulate.
Learn.

Before learning comes belonging.

Before attendance comes connection.

Before achievement comes safety.

Every child deserves to walk through a school gate knowing:

"I am welcome here."
