We love seeing our industry leaders out in the community! Alex Matthews (Dispensing Optician) and Mieke de Bruyn (Optometrist) from Matthews Eyecare recently attended the Future of Work expo at Marlborough Girls' College to introduce over 2,000 students to the worlds of Optics!

Alex and Mieke shared their personal career journeys, highlighting the professional opportunities available within our sector. Thank you both for representing ADONZ and promoting our industry to the next generation!

Today we acknowledge the passing of Mo Jalie, whose contribution to ophthalmic lenses, optics and dispensing education has had a lasting impact on our profession worldwide.
For many dispensing opticians, Mo’s name became familiar through his teaching, publications and especially his well-known text, The Principles of Ophthalmic Lenses — a trusted reference that supported generations of students and practitioners in understanding the practical application of optical theory.

As a teacher, author and visiting professor, Mo helped shape modern dispensing practice and contributed significantly to applied optics and curriculum development across the profession. He was widely respected for his precision, generosity in sharing knowledge and unwavering commitment to high standards in patient care.

On behalf of the dispensing optics community in New Zealand, ADONZ extends sincere condolences to Professor Jalie’s family, friends, colleagues and former students. His influence will continue to be felt every day in practices, classrooms and workshops wherever dispensing opticians apply their knowledge to achieve the best outcomes for patients.
