🌺KEEPING OUR PASIFIKA COMMUNITIES IN NZ SAFE🌸

Hi everyone,

We have collaborated with NZ Police to create a survey around keeping our Pasifika communities in New Zealand safe.

Are you interested in contributing to the safety and well-being of our Pasifika Communities who face ongoing challenges related to criminal victimisation?

If you answered ‘yes’, we encourage you to take part in this survey: https://forms.gle/RU1ENxsySwhmx6tk7

Survey results will support New Zealand Police in gaining insights into the challenges facing our Pasifika Communities and exploring effective strategies to help mitigate them.

All responses are anonymous.

Ngaa Mihi!

👀 LOOK OUT 👋 REACH OUT 🫱🏼‍🫲🏾 HELP OUT 🫂 - Neighbourhood Support's November National Theme.

Neighbourhood Support is a nationwide community-led movement that brings people and neighbourhoods together to create safe, resilient, and connected communities. We believe that a well-connected community helps to improve safety, resilience, and wellbeing for all.

The most important action you can take to make your community safer is to get to know the people who live around you. People who know each other are more likely to offer, accept, and ask for help when needed. You don’t need to love your neighbour, but at least have their number just in case.

3 Ways To Connect With Your Neighbours:
👀 Look Out: Help keep your community safe by looking out for your neighbours. If something doesn’t look right, let someone know or get help. Check in with your neighbours after bad weather events and natural disasters.

👋 Reach Out: It just takes a wave! Say ‘Kia ora!’ or introduce yourself. Take around some baking or excess from your fruit trees. There are many ways to make your street welcoming for everyone who lives there.

🫱🏼‍🫲🏾 Help Out: Little things can make a big difference! Have a chat with someone who lives alone, clear the drains in your street before a storm, bring in the mail for a neighbour who is away or share resources with neighbours after bad weather events and natural disasters.

🖥️ Our website also has some great tips on how to prepare together and keep you, your home and the people around you safe.

⚠️ PUBLIC NOTICE – MĀNGERE ⚠️

According to Fire and Emergency New Zealand’s own official data, there is statistically a one-in-four chance that Māngere Fire Station will receive an emergency call between 12 pm and 1 pm this Friday, 17 October — exactly when firefighters will be on strike.

That means there is a very real likelihood that someone in our community could need urgent help… and there may be no immediate response available.

Let’s be clear — we didn’t choose this.
Firefighters have done everything possible to reach a fair settlement and to avoid putting the public at risk. We’ve shown up to negotiate. We’ve offered solutions. We’ve compromised.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand didn’t.
They failed to front up. They failed to fix the issues. And now, they’ve left Māngere and communities across New Zealand exposed.

We’re proud of the work we do, and we’ll always stand with our community. But right now, the organisation responsible for protecting you has walked away from its duty.

FENZ has left you exposed — and that’s on them. 🔥Fire and Emergency NZ Counties Manukau - Fire and Emergency NZ New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union

Counties Manukau Police have located a body in the search for a woman missing from Māngere for nearly three months.

Eileen ‘Ella’ Davenport, 57, had been missing from her Hain Avenue home since 20 June 2025.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Hayward, of Counties Manukau West CIB, says on 10 September Police located a body in a reserve near Savill Drive.

“Police had been carrying out a search operation as part of ongoing enquiries to locate her,” he says.

“The area being searched consisted of dense scrub and a creek which flows into the Manukau Estuary.”

Police made the discovery with the assistance of a cadaver dog.

“It has taken us some time, but we can confirm that the body has now been formally identified as Ms Davenport,” Detective Senior Sergeant Hayward says.

“Tragically, this brings the search for her to an end, and I know that this is not the outcome any of us wanted.

“She has since been returned to her whānau, and I can confirm her death is not being treated as suspicious.”

Police acknowledge and thank all those who contributed to the search efforts, including members of the public and specialist teams.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to Eileen’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
