ON SUNDAY
🚨 Emergency Response Plan Community Meeting 🚨

As part of developing Little River’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP), we have divided the community into a number of local clusters. The idea is simple: in the event of a flood, earthquake, power outage, or other emergency, smaller neighbourhood groups can check on one another, share information, and support those who may need assistance.

We are now looking for residents who would like to help shape this initiative, provide feedback, or potentially take on a Cluster Leader role.

📅 Sunday 21st June
🕓 4:00pm
📍 Rugby Rooms

Clusters include:

• Puaha Valley
• Cooptown (Church Road Corner to Hilltop)
• Lower Western Valley (Church Road & Upper Church Road)
• Montgomerys, Bachelors & Upper Western Valley
• Village Cluster:

Morrisons, Barclays & Council Hill Road
Kinloch, Pā/Wairewa & Brightmeyers

This is an informal session where we’ll explain how the cluster system works, discuss next steps for the ERP, and hear your ideas and feedback.

A resilient community starts with connected neighbours. If you’d like to be involved, we’d love to see you there.

Mātaitai Proposal Community Discussions - Two Dates.
Tuesday 16th June at 6pm
At Te Mata Hapuku, Birdlings Flat Community Hall
Or Wednesday 17th June at 6pm
At the Rugby Club Rooms, Awa Iti Domain, Little River
Both nights = Wairewa Runanga invite the community along to discuss the proposal to have a mātaitai, a mātaitai is a customary title which blocks commercial fishing (two species are exempt) i.e. better recreational fishing. MPI will be attending so questions can also be asked of them. They will provide kai and it'll be a good chance to discuss any other kaupapa.

FREE SAND FOR SAND BAGS!

Message from Donald Matheson Deputy Chair of the Trust -

Fulton Hogan’s Canterbury region has donated a truckload of sand to the community, which is very cool and generous of them. Big thanks especially to Nathan Peter their contract manager for the peninsula for organising the delivery.

The pile is by the recycling shed behind the village (access off Barclays Road).

The sand is for anyone in the community to use to fill sandbags. Dig in. We suggest you only fill bags just before using them as hessian ones will rot if left sitting outside and plastic ones will start doing their microplastic thing.

We can do another order of hessian bags if you’d like some.

There’s some advice here on sandbagging - including not tying them and health issues around sand that’s been in flood waters : click the link: https://www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/living-and-community/community-safety/disasters/be-prepared/sandbagging

Like or share this post to spread the message wider. Many thanks.
