Spring dynamics in full swing! 🌸

It’s always a delight to spot a tūī here—a rare treat mostly saved for early spring. Tūī and Korimako (Bellbirds) share a love for nectar, and around our place, the Korimako definitely hold the home-ground advantage most of the year!
While our resident bellbird population keeps the air filled with song day in and day out, watching this tūī sing away in the cherry tree was a beautiful reminder of the changing seasons. 🌿🕊️

Protecting our local wildlife is just as important to us as creating a comfortable stay for our guests. That’s why we’ve installed new blackout blinds from Curtains4You, in the Whero Iti cabin!
While they’re fantastic for ensuring a restful night’s sleep and complete privacy, they serve an even higher purpose: protecting the endangered Hutton’s Shearwater that nest on our station.

These remarkable seabirds can become easily disoriented and distracted by artificial lights, especially during night flights. By drawing the blackout blinds at dusk, we help minimize light spill and give our local shearwaters a safer, clearer path as they navigate the night sky.
Every small action counts toward wildlife conservation, and we’re proud to do our part to safeguard these rare birds. ❤️🏔️
