In loving memory of Gabrielle (Gaye) Topp (1948 -2025)

Gaye, beloved wife of our Club Management Association Executive Officer Des Topp for 57 years, sadly passed away recently.

Gaye a member of the Remuera Golf Club for 14 years, served as Ladies Captain 2009-2010, Ladies President 2011-2012, Board member 2009-2010 and Ladies Intermediate champion in 2008.

Gaye joined Pakuranga Golf Club in 2015 and quickly became an enthusiastic member of the 18-hole ladies’ section. She was warmly regarded by all and enjoyed the loyal support of a dedicated group of women on her committees.

Gaye’s greatest joy was her family. She shared a special bond with her grandchildren, Molly, Ruby, and Josh, who brought her endless pride and happiness.

She leaves us with the cherished memories of her recent round at Tara Iti Golf Club, where, true to form, she played to her handicap and celebrated a well-earned birdie. It was classic Gaye: composed, competitive, and brilliant in her own way.

Gaye will be remembered not only for her contributions to golf, but for the grace, humour, and kindness she brought to every round and every gathering. She will be deeply missed.

Our thoughts are with Des and the Topp family during this time.

We had two very special moments at the NZGIC Whole of Golf Conference 🌟

The Club Manager of the Year Award was proudly presented to Dylan Lindstrom from Royal Wellington Golf Club, recognising his outstanding leadership and commitment to the industry.

We were also honoured to award Life Membership of CMANZ to Chris Davies, a fitting acknowledgement of his dedication and service to the golf community. It was an especially proud moment, with Chris’s son there on the night to watch him receive this honour.

We recently held the 2025 Whole of Golf Conference over two inspiring days at Ellerslie Events Centre, the golf industry came together from around NZ to connect, learn, and shape the future of our game.

We were fortunate to hear from an outstanding line-up of domestic and international speakers who left delegates with valuable insights and ideas to take back to their clubs. We were fortunate to have Mike King at our dinner and his presence left a lasting impression on everyone.

A huge turnout at Mount Maunganui Golf Club this week, where 45 managers, board members, PGA professionals, and superintendents from across the North Island gathered to explore the club’s impressive new $2M+ 24-bay driving range and oversized putting green.

Mike Williams (GM, Mount Maunganui GC) shared insights into the planning, construction, and financials behind the project, while Matt Blackbourne (NZ Premium Simulators) and Andy Sutton (Drive Project Management) unpacked the cutting-edge ball monitoring technology and project delivery.

Phil Tataurangi rounded out the presentations with a valuable overview of the environmental and health & safety considerations that shaped the facility design.

The group also visited Omanu Golf Club to view their innovative driving range—a different model, but one that’s proving highly effective.

Royal Auckland and Grange Golf Club is one of the only truly private member clubs in New Zealand and is known within Australia and New Zealand as one of the premier member clubs.

Founded in 1894, the Royal Auckland and Grange Golf Club is the product of a historic merger between the Auckland Golf Club and the Grange Golf Club. Auckland Golf Club, established in 1894, and the Grange Golf Club, founded in 1924, each brought a distinguished legacy to the amalgamation, forming the foundation of what the club represents today.

BMI Leadership Principles || Last week Club Management Association of New Zealand hosted 14 club managers for the BMI Golf Management Educational course. A 5-day, 40-hour intensive course designed for managers to develop leadership, management, and critical thinking skills to benefit their career development.

Key highlights of the week included visits to Tara Iti Golf Club, Te Arai Links, Royal Auckland and Grange Golf Club, and Parkland Toro. The club managers explored their facilities, course agronomy, and the transformative role of AI in enhancing equipment and operations.

Experts from Royal Wellington Golf Club, Golf NZ, NZ Sport Turf Institute, Remuera Golf Club, and Wainui Golf Club contributed valuable insights, covering various aspects of club administration and course development, rounding out an engaging and informative experience.
