A 34-year-old man has been charged following an aggravated burglary at an elderly woman’s address in Hamilton.

About 9.30pm on Sunday 1 December, the victim alerted Police that two men had broken into her house.

After entering her home, the alleged offenders moved around the house before entering the victim’s bedroom while she was sleeping.

She was told to hand over money and some of her belongings.
The offenders then fled the scene in a stolen vehicle.

Thankfully, the victim was unharmed however is understandably shaken by the incident and is receiving support.

A 34-year-old local man was arrested during a search warrant at a Hamilton property yesterday.

The investigation is ongoing, and Police are not ruling out further arrests.

Hamilton CIB Detective Sergeant Johnny O’Bryne says the team have worked very hard and quickly to identify the alleged offender and bring him before the courts.

“There is no place for this type of offending, especially against the most vulnerable people in our communities.

Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own homes.”

The accused appeared in Hamilton District Court charged with aggravated robbery, burglary, and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.

“Waikato Police would like to reassure the community that we will continue to work hard to hold offenders to account, and if anyone sees suspicious or criminal behaviour to contact Police on 111, or if it after the fact on 105.

As the matter is now before the courts, Police are unable to comment further.

Police continue to investigate the death of a man on State Highway 23 near Raglan on Wednesday 4 September.

The 43-year-old man is believed to have been struck by a car while walking his dog.

Police enquiries to establish the exact circumstances of the man’s death are ongoing.

Have you seen Cassandra Clarkin?

The 50-year-old woman was last seen at her Hamilton address on 10 September.

Cassandra's family, and Police, are concerned for her welfare and would like her to return home safely.

It is possible she is travelling to Whangārei or the Rotorua/Taupō areas.

Bader homicide investigation: Further appeal to nearby residents

Police investigating the death of an 8-year-old continue to urge residents in Bader to contact Police if they have found any unfamiliar clothing on their property.
If residents of Pine Avenue, Anthony Crescent and Ansford Place have located any clothing on their property or under their houses around 1 September, they are asked to contact Police.
Police are looking for a white t-shirt and light-coloured track pants that may have been discarded in the area.

Drunk driver caught driving twice within four hours

Attribute to Senior Sergeant Philip Ruddell, Waikato Highway Patrol

On Friday 6 September at about 9pm members of the public reported a vehicle driving up over curbs and weaving all over the road in the Flagstaff area of Hamilton.

Police responded and found a female driver slumped at the wheel of the vehicle.

The woman underwent alcohol testing procedures and returned a result of 1291 micrograms per litre of breath.

At the conclusion of the testing the driver was suspended for 28 days and was taken by police back to a Hamilton address where family lived.

Fatal vehicle incident, Taupiri

A child has died following a collision involving a car and a child on a Te Putu Street driveway, Taupiri, Waikato.

Emergency services responded to the scene around 12pm Saturday 7 September, where the child was located in a critical condition and CPR was commenced.

Sadly the child was unable to be revived and died at the scene.

The Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

One person has died after a quadbike rolled on a Kaihere farm in the Hauraki District, Saturday 7 September.

Emergency services responded to the scene around 4pm and one person was located deceased.

The Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination.

WorkSafe have been advised and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
