We’ve gone from one oversimplified explanation… to another.

Depression isn’t just a “chemical imbalance.”
But it’s not just “in your gut” either.

The reality is more complex; and more human.

When something affects your ability to function, work, or live the way you used to…it’s rarely one cause, and it’s rarely one fix.

That’s something I see often — especially in ACC-related situations.
When the full picture isn’t understood or clearly presented, people get dismissed or under-supported.

You’re not imagining it. And you’re not alone.

If you’re dealing with something complex and not getting clear answers, feel free to reach out.

Review from our valued client Nathan - March 2026. " I can’t recommend Emma highly enough for ACC reviews and advocacy.

She took the time to properly go through my file and picked up on things that just didn’t seem right with ACC’s decisions; things I would have never spotted myself.

Because of her, my declined weekly compensation decision was overturned, and I ended up being backpaid for the 5 years I had been fighting for.

She’s professional, easy to deal with, and really knows what she’s doing. You can tell she genuinely cares, but she’s also very onto it and doesn’t miss the important details.

After years of stress dealing with ACC, having someone like Emma in your corner made all the difference.

If I ever needed help again, she’d be the first person I’d call.

Honestly so grateful for everything she’s done.

💡 Understanding ACC Decisions (This will save you a LOT of frustration)..

I’ve explained this to a few people clients recently.. so thought I’d share it here 👇

🔎 Your claim is a legal case, not just a medical one.
Medical evidence supports your case — but it isn’t the case on its own.

⚖️ Here’s the key part most people don’t realise:
ACC only needs to show their decision is reasonable.

That means even if their medical opinion is weak, biased, or doesn’t fully reflect your situation… it can still be enough for them to decline cover.

👉 Once they’ve done that, the onus shifts to you.

📌 You now need to show, on the balance of probabilities, that your condition is caused by your injury
(meaning: your explanation is more likely than not).

🚫 Where people get stuck:
Focusing on proving ACC is wrong.

✅ What actually matters:
Building a stronger overall case than theirs.

✔ Clear, consistent medical evidence
✔ Strong reasoning linking everything together
✔ Staying focused on proving your case — not arguing theirs

⚠️ ACC doesn’t have to be right to win.
They just need a reason that meets the legal threshold.

Once you understand that shift, everything becomes clearer — and you can approach your review much more strategically.
