🕰️ BLAST FROM THE PAST | PUKEMIRO SCHOOL – PART TWO
We’re back with Part Two of our Pukemiro School photo collection, and there are plenty more familiar faces to find!

Looking through these old school photos is a real trip down memory lane. For many, these were the kids you grew up alongside...sharing classrooms, playgrounds, sports days and all the mischief that came with growing up in a small mining community.

Some faces will be instantly recognisable, while others might take a bit of thinking! And this is definitely not the end of our Puke School memories. We’ve got plenty more photos tucked away to share over the coming months.

📸 Reshared and digitally enhanced photos.

🏡 BLAST FROM THE PAST | GULLY ROAD
Hard to imagine today, but Gully Road was once a lively little settlement of its own, tucked between Glen Afton and Pukemiro.

At its peak, the area was home to around 30 houses, filled with local families and plenty of community life. There was a popular bowling club, railway tracks and bridge, plus coal-mining activity operated nearby by the Graham Coal Company.

Gully Road wasn’t simply a road people travelled through, it was home. Generations of families lived, worked, played and grew up here, creating their own little community in the heart of our coal-mining district.

Today, it’s a much quieter place. Many of the houses and landmarks have disappeared, and nature has reclaimed much of what once stood there. But the memories haven’t disappeared.

💭 Did you or your whānau live on Gully Road? Do you remember the houses, bowling club, railway or coal mine?

Share your memories, names and old photos in the comments. Every story helps keep another little piece of Gully Road history alive. ❤️
