Just a reminder about the public meeting tonight about the reforms central government are wanting to impose. Please make sure you get to one of the meetings and hear how this could impact our community.

Big changes to local government are being discussed across New Zealand.

The Government is requiring councils to consider possible amalgamation into larger council structures and that could affect who represents our communities, how local decisions are made, and how services are delivered in the future.

No decisions have been made about the future of Manawatū District Council.

But these conversations could shape our district for generations, which is why we want our community involved before any future direction is considered.

Public meetings are being held online and across the district, including Feilding, Pohangina, Kimbolton and Rongotea. It's important you are part of the conversation.

Learn more, find a meeting, or have your say at: https://makeyourmark.manawatudc.govt.nz/localgovernmentreform

The conversation starts with you.

Apparently Central Government are trying to encourage local councils to amalgamate. Is this something we want? It wasn’t that long ago our district gave a resounding response in regards to ‘Local water done well’ and said we will go it alone. However, we may be forced to amalgamate with another district whether we want to or not. Please, attend one of the meetings and get all the info and help our council to make the right decision for our region.

🌟 Congratulations Rob and Jerry! 🌟

The Association would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations to Rob and Jerry on their election to the Manawatū District Council as councillors. We’re proud of their achievement and wish them every success for the term ahead.

While we’re sorry to see them step down from our Executive Committee, we’re also excited about what comes next. Their departure opens up opportunities for others who care about our district to get involved and make a difference.

👉 We’re looking for new members to join our Executive Committee — people who are passionate about the Manawatū, enjoy working with others, and want to help ensure residents and ratepayers have a strong voice on local issues.

The Association plays an important role in our community by:
✅ Providing a voice for residents and ratepayers — whether that’s directly to Council, through local media, or in community discussions.
✅ Researching and examining issues that affect our district.
✅ Sharing information and insights to help drive positive change.
✅ Questioning and constructively challenging Council decisions when needed — and suggesting practical alternatives.

If you’re community-minded, curious, and want to see our district thrive, we’d love to hear from you. Please email us at [email protected] for more information or to express your interest.

Let’s keep working together for a stronger, fairer, and better Manawatū. 💪
