A Star Is Born

A Star Is Born A Star Is Born provides modern and timeless keepsakes for bereaved families of babies. This service and products are provided at no cost to our families.

A Star Is Born was started by five Dunedin women who through individual personal experiences in baby loss recognised the need for families to have the opportunity to choose lasting keepsakes of their precious baby. Time is donated, products are sponsored and money is raised through various local businesses, individuals and charities. A Star Is Born volunteers are dedicated to providing a caring, empathetic and professional service.

A Star is Born want to extend our heartfelt love to whānau who have had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to their pēpi for medical reasons 💛

You are not alone 👼🏼

Today, on Termination for Medical Reason Awareness Day, we acknowledge the parents who have had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to their baby due to medical reasons.

No one should have to face this journey alone. If you or someone you know has experienced this loss, support is available. 💜🧡

For our Gore & Southland whānau 🤍🤍🤍

We have been told about this amazing network that has begun in Gore.
For the 5 years from 2018-2022 there were 176 pregnancy and infant losses for the Southern district.
If you or someone you know could benefit from support, this is a safe place to start.
Kia kaha ❤️

Tuituia te Kahu / National Bereavement Care Pathway for Perinal Loss Report has been officially published by Te Whatu Ora/ Health NZ. Sands NZ has been involved in the Technical Advisory Group that put this report together, including Vicki Culling as a Co-Chair and Melanie Tarrant as a member.

Tuituia te Kahu sets a clear national direction for compassionate, culturally safe and consistent bereavement care.

Sands NZ welcomes this report and its focus on creating clearer, more compassionate, and better‑supported pathways for those navigating this heart breaking journey. Every recommendation reflects what so many parents have told us for years: that their grief deserves recognition, their voices deserve to be heard, and their care should never depend on where they live.

A link to the report can be found in the comments.

A gentle reminder.. 🤍

A gentle reminder.. 🤍

A gentle reminder this April Fools Day, pregnancy is no joke.

We know it can be tempting to share fake pregnancy news on April Fool’s Day, but we want to remind you that an innocent joke can cause a lot of hurt and distress to those in your life who have experienced baby loss.

1-2 of every 10 pregnancies in NZ ends in a miscarriage.

1 in every 100 pregnancies after 20 weeks of pregnancy in NZ ends in a loss.

1 in 4 couples in NZ experience infertility.

Please think before you make a fake pregnancy announcement this April 1st.
Many of your whānau and friends are going through struggles you have no idea about ♥️
