This is great news! New Zealand’s first national tyre recycling scheme called Tyrewise is now fully operational, with free drop offs and collections starting today.

About 40% of the 6.5 million tyres Kiwis use to keep us moving every year are recycled, repurposed or used as tyre derived fuel. The rest end up stockpiled, dumped, or in landfill which is no good for anyone. This new scheme aims to have 80% recycled in just the next few years and increasing from there.

If you have tyres lying around, they can be dropped at these locations in Christchurch for free. Eco Central, Eco Drop Metro Place, Eco Drop Parkhouse Road and Eco Drop Styx Mill.
