The New Zealand Chinese Association Canterbury branch is a part of fourteen other contingents across the country, which participates in an annual sports and cultural tournament held each year around Easter (14th-17th April 2017). The tournament is one of the longest consecutively held sports events in New Zealand, with Easter 2017 being the 69th tournament. The tournament is also the largest gathe
ring of Chinese people in New Zealand which will bring approximately 700 people to the city of Christchurch. The aim of the tournament is to promote good will, cultural spirit and also the well-being of each participant through healthy competition. The tournament programme contains some of the following;
- Opening cultural ceremony, to open the games
- Sports, such as basketball, touch rugby, netball, indoor football, golf and lawn bowls.
- Social events
- Presentation and awards dinner
