September is Cervical Screening Awareness Month!

The health sector has launched the New Zealand Cervical Cancer elimination plan 2026 to 2040. This means we are on a mission to eliminate cervical cancer in New Zealand by 2040.

How can we eliminate cervical cancer?

1. HPV vaccination protects against the viruses that causes cervical cancer. This is free for everyone (boys and girls) age 9y to 26y.

2. regular screening from the age of 25y - it is now very easy to do screening with a self-swab that you do yourself. If negative for the HPV virus, it is repeated every 5 years till you are 69y.

3. If you have any abnormal symptoms - bleeding outside of your normal cycle, pain or bleeding with in*******se, bleeding in menopause, pelvic pain, abnormal discharge - please see your doctor for further assessment.
Catching it early means better survival rates for our women.
