This campaign is funded by a donor, & supported by creative, print & media partners. On March 15 2024, the Christchurch City Council released their Long Term Plan for Ōtautahi. For the first time ever, this included zero funding for The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora. This means The Arts Centre Trust (who currently manage

the precinct) will be heading towards insolvency. In time, following a lengthy legal process at the expense of the taxpayer, management would inevitably be handed to the Council – spelling the end of The Arts Centre as we know it. Council have suggested the space be run as a property management business, and we “stop doing the arts”. It’s the only space of its kind in Aotearoa. It’s a thriving hub for creativity, makers, events and festivals, local food and wine, entertainment, indigenous creatives, and opportunities for learning. If there’s one thing we know about the Christchurch community, is that we rally together when it matters! We now have a short window until 21 April to publicly appeal the Council’s proposal. This is a crucial moment to collectively make our voice heard – Council will listen if we’re loud enough! Add your voice by heading to www.savetheartscentre.co.nz – submissions are easy and take 1 minute! This campaign is possible thanks the the generosity of a local donor, and some incredible print, media and creative partners.
