SIBSN 1st XV inaugural winners

It is a huge congratulations to the Christchurch Boys' High School 1st XV who are the inaugural SIBSN champions after defeating St Bede's College 24-14 in the last round-robin match today.

Five points in arrears of Southland Boys' High School Rugby going into today's last round, the 1st XV needed a bonus point win against a very strong St Bedes side to take the title, after having defeated Southland in the first round of the competition in Invercargill at the start of May.

Two first half tries saw them go to the break ahead 12-7. The lead would extend to 19-7 early in the second half before St Bedes responded with a converted try to narrow the margin to 19-14. A late try to vice-captain Will Brown would extend the lead to 24-14, a lead that School would hold onto to the final whistle.

It has been a tight tussle between Boys' High and Southland Boys' throughout the competition, with each team having just the one loss.

The win also secured top ranking for Boys' High in the Miles Toyota Premiership, with St Bedes finishing second. Both teams will have a week off before hosting home semi-finals on 8 August.

Scoring CBHS - tries Isoa Vosa, Max Carr, Dougal Grant, Will Brown. Conversions - Brown (2)

St Bedes - tries Robbie Corlett, Lewis McCormick. Conversions - George Kneebone (2)

Old Boys performing well on the World Stage

Christchurch Boys' High School is well represented at the World Rugby U20 Championship being played in Georgia.

Five of our recent Old Boys are in the squad with three players - Jake Frost Josh Findlay and Ethan Webber having played in all three of the pool victories. They were joined in Tuesday's win against Italy by James Moore and Finn Mcleod. Finn had only joined the squad as an injury replacement at the weekend, after initially been ruled out by injury himself.

Results to date:

➡️ vs Japan - Win 38-21
➡️ vs Scotland - Win 36-26
➡️ vs Italy - Win 45-15

The team now head to the Tuesday's semi-final that will be played at 2am NZT where they will play a similarly unbeaten France Rugby

We wish the boys and the NZ U20 team all the best as they play for a place in the World Cup final👍
