🤝 Connection is Everything 🤍

A simple hug, a shared laugh, a caring word — these moments remind us what truly matters most: each other. 💫

Friendship, family, faith, and love are the threads that hold our Pacific communities together. When we take time to connect, to show kindness, and to uplift one another, we strengthen not only our bonds but also our wellbeing. 🌺

Let’s continue to care for our neighbours, cherish our comrades, and reach out with open hearts — because connection is the heartbeat of who we are as Pasifika peoples. ❤️

“E le sili le ta’i i lo le tapua’i” — The support of others is greater than going it alone. 🌺

🌺 Keep Moving, Keep Smiling, Keep Shining! 🌺

There’s nothing quite like the joy of our Pasifika Matua coming together — dancing, laughing, singing, and celebrating life with each other. 💃🏽🕺🏽✨

Staying active isn’t just about exercise — it’s about connection, happiness, and keeping our Pacific spirit alive. These smiles say it all — when we move together, we feel better together! 💖

To all our beautiful matua — keep those steps going, keep those smiles glowing, and continue sharing your warmth and laughter wherever you go. You inspire us all to live with joy, movement, and community. 🌈

“E soona galo le tino, ae le galo le fiafia” — The body may tire, but the joy remains. 🌺

🌺 Community Update from Canterbury Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) 🌺

Most of Canterbury is no longer under a local state of emergency as agencies and councils begin recovery efforts following this week’s severe weather.

A local state of emergency remains in place for the Kaikōura District as crews continue to manage remnant fires.

🗣️ James Thompson, Canterbury CDEM Group Controller, shares his appreciation:

“Emergency services, councils, roading contractors, and partner agencies all worked cohesively in some very hazardous conditions yesterday to ensure the safety of our communities — we say thank you.
The work is only just beginning for those most affected, and we want to acknowledge them as the road to recovery begins.”

🙏 A huge thank you to the roading and power crews who are out today restoring key routes and supplies — your hard work is appreciated and will continue for some time.

📣 Please stay updated through your local council channels and continue to check in on family and neighbours who may need support.

Fakaaue lahi to everyone for doing the right thing and looking out for one another. ❤️

🔺State of local emergency declared for Canterbury🔺

The Minister for Emergency Management and Recovery Mark Mitchell has declared a state of local emergency for the Canterbury Region, to assist in the response to the current severe weather.

James Thompson, Canterbury Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group Controller explained that "after discussion with emergency services and the chief executives the decision was made to declare and due to the current local body election cycle with no mayors sworn in, we asked Minister Mitchell to do this on our behalf."

"We are working closely with our partner agencies to position resources and prepare for any impacts tomorrow."

Thursday’s forecast is for stronger wind and higher temperatures across a broader area of the region, we are asking the public to please take this warning seriously.

🔺Consider how these winds may impact you and your property and take action to mitigate any impacts.

🔺Avoid non-essential travel.

Please avoid non-essential travel, stay up to date with the latest information and be assured that we are working jointly across the agencies to keep our communities safe.
