At our latest Work Readiness Workshop, we welcomed 24 attendees from across the globe. 🌍

China, Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, Russia, the U.S.A., Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Israel, and India were all represented in one room, connected by a shared goal: finding meaningful work and building a future in New Zealand.

What stood out most was this:
Many attendees were highly qualified, with most currently studying or already holding Master’s level qualifications. Yet, despite their education, experience, resilience, and willingness to work hard, many repeatedly face rejection in the job market without truly understanding why.

This is the hidden side of the employment journey for many migrants and international graduates.

The current market is highly competitive, and qualifications alone are no longer enough. People are searching not only for jobs, but also for connection, belonging, and understanding of local workplace culture.

What they are asking for is simple:
✔ Opportunities to network
✔ Spaces to meet people in Christchurch
✔ Guidance around local expectations and communication styles
✔ A chance to contribute their skills and life experience

Behind every CV is a human story filled with courage, sacrifice, adaptation, and determination.

Work readiness is not just about “getting a job.”
It is about helping people bridge cultures, build confidence, and feel seen in a new environment.

The room was filled with talent, humility, resilience, and hope. Christchurch has so much to gain from these individuals if we create pathways for genuine inclusion.

Thank you to everyone who attended and shared their journey so openly. 🤝

Great online event to understand renters' rights in New Zealand..

See the following post for more info.

On Wednesday 13 May at 7.30 pm, CABNZ will be chatting with Whānau Āwhina Plunket about renters’ rights and how people can use knowledge about their rights as renters to save money and keep themselves and their whānau healthy in their homes.

We welcome you to join us for the live Facebook chat, where we will cover topics like:
• Rent increases and bonds
• Repairs and maintenance
• Normal wear and tear vs. damage
• And other common issues that can cost tenants

If you’re dealing with a challenging renting situation, approaching the end of a tenancy, or simply want to know where you stand, this could be the chat for you. Come and listen in!

🤟 NZ Sign Language Week | Te Wiki o Te Reo Rotarota 🤟

At Nimaan A Humble Voice, we celebrate the beauty of connection in all its forms. This NZ Sign Language Week, we honour New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) as an official language of Aotearoa and a powerful bridge that brings people together.

Every gesture carries meaning. And every effort to learn even a few signs opens a door to inclusion, respect, and belongingness.

✨ This week, we encourage our community to:
• Learn a few simple NZSL signs like “hello”, “thank you”, and “welcome”
• Practice communicating in new ways
• Celebrate diversity in language and expression

We recently attended a workshop at Christchurch City Council on Influencing Council Decisions 🏛️

It really got us thinking.

💡 There is a gap between who is part of our community and who is actively involved in shaping decisions. And that gap is also an opportunity

👉 We need young people being more involved

👉 We need to create more awareness and support for diverse communities to have their voices heard

One powerful reminder from Dr. Sunita Gautam was that you can reach out to your local Community Board anytime—your voice matters more than you think 📣

At Nimaan A Humble Voice Charitable Trust , we believe belonging is more than just living in a place 🤝
It’s about feeling confident to speak up, participate, and help shape the future of your community.

It would be great to see some more community groups next time like Avonhead Community Trust , Shirley Community Trust , Delta Community Support Trust , Belfast Community Network, We are Richmond and Aranui Community Trust.

Big change doesn’t always start big, how do you plan to share your voice?
