At our latest Work Readiness Workshop, we welcomed 24 attendees from across the globe. 🌍
China, Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, Russia, the U.S.A., Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Israel, and India were all represented in one room, connected by a shared goal: finding meaningful work and building a future in New Zealand.
What stood out most was this:
Many attendees were highly qualified, with most currently studying or already holding Master’s level qualifications. Yet, despite their education, experience, resilience, and willingness to work hard, many repeatedly face rejection in the job market without truly understanding why.
This is the hidden side of the employment journey for many migrants and international graduates.
The current market is highly competitive, and qualifications alone are no longer enough. People are searching not only for jobs, but also for connection, belonging, and understanding of local workplace culture.
What they are asking for is simple:
✔ Opportunities to network
✔ Spaces to meet people in Christchurch
✔ Guidance around local expectations and communication styles
✔ A chance to contribute their skills and life experience
Behind every CV is a human story filled with courage, sacrifice, adaptation, and determination.
Work readiness is not just about “getting a job.”
It is about helping people bridge cultures, build confidence, and feel seen in a new environment.
The room was filled with talent, humility, resilience, and hope. Christchurch has so much to gain from these individuals if we create pathways for genuine inclusion.
Thank you to everyone who attended and shared their journey so openly. 🤝
