Since opening in July, we've provided 1,632 nights of safety to 38 pets affected by domestic violence from Auckland, Waikato, Wellington and Christchurch. 15 of these pets have now been safely reunited with their families to start a new chapter.

"The best part is seeing the animals reunited with their owners. Words can’t describe the special moment when an owner sees their pet and the pet realises they're going home. It's sheer joy." - Nikki Marchant-Ludlow, Programme Manager.

Join us by giving a pet a safe bed for $25 a month, and help even more pets and their families escape abuse and find safety together. Donate at https://bit.ly/3mug9iE

Last night two-year-old Police dog Lenix was injured by a man fleeing Police after a serious family harm incident.

The man who was apprehended by Lenix, then became aggressive with a hammer, hitting Lenix in the face and assaulting the Police dog handler.

Lenix has been seen by the vet and cleared of any fractures. Thankfully, after a few days of rest he’ll be back on the beat.

A 35-year-old man will face multiple charges relating to resisting Police, assaulting Police, injuring a Police dog and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.

Lenix is a bit of a superstar in the Canterbury region, he and his handler were recently voted New Zealand’s top trainee Police dog team for the year winning the Overton Cup.

We hope you make a speedy recovery Lenix 💙🐾

From today, fireworks are on sale to the New Zealand public. SPCA calls once again for a ban on the private sale and use of fireworks in New Zealand due to the distress and harm they cause to animals.

Fireworks cause substantial fear and distress to our furry friends, farmed animals and wildlife in the vicinity. Although fireworks are on sale for a limited time, people often stockpile fireworks and let them off through the following weeks and months making it impossible for animal guardians to take proactive steps to protect their animals.
