July is our theme month for celebrating community! If you and your community want to be connected, resilient and safer with the trusted support and resources of local Police, FENZ, Auckland Emergency Management and St John, please reach out to us - we are usually in and around the area linking up with local NFP organisations, residents and businesses holding events, presenting talks and co-hosting community meetings. We would love to be involved and support your neighbourhood!

🎉 This month is all about bringing your community together in celebration! 🎉 We want July to be spent celebrating the connections we have while making new ones along the way.

As we all know, what makes a neighbourhood great isn’t the houses and cars, gardens and streets - it’s the people who share their presence and aroha with each other.

There are many ways to take part! From hosting a multicultural potluck, Matariki celebration or mid-winter feast, holding a film screening, coordinating a fundraiser, creating a community garden, or simply saying ‘hello’ to a neighbour as you pass them by in the street.

This month also celebrates Chocolate Day (7th), Teddy Bear Picnic Day (10th) and International Friendship Day (30th) – the perfect excuses for gathering with friends, whānau and neighbours or to simply give a little love in the form of chocolate!

Pakuranga, Auckland Transport's Eastern Busway Alliance community team are hosting a free Mid-Winter Neighbour's BBQ for locals nearby next week Wednesday the 15th from 4pm to 6pm.

This is a perfect time to meet with the team and ask questions about the project particularly between the new bus stations at Pakuranga, Te Tahawai (Edgewater) and by Koata (Gossamer) as well as Ti Rakau Drive and tributary road works. Note, you will need to enter via Marriott and Cardiff Roads, details in the photo below!

Notice from the Howick Local Board about planning changes to your neighbourhood under the AUP PC120:

Please be advised that the Howick Local Board will be meeting on Thursday, 2 July 2026, starting at 11:00am, at the Howick Local Board Office, 7 Aylesbury Street, Pakuranga, to consider the Plan Change 120 Report.
Plan Change 120 relates to proposed housing intensification in the Howick Local Board area, with two scenarios under consideration (‘Scenario A – Essentials Only’ or ‘Scenario B – Further Elective Intensification’). Only Plan Change 120 will be addressed at this meeting.

Members of the public are welcome to attend to listen. The Board will also be able to hear from up to 10 speakers, with 3 minutes allocated to each.

If you would like to speak, please reply to the Howick Local Board email address so that we can book you in. As there are only 10 speaking spots available, these will be allocated to the first 10 people who respond to the Howick Local Board email, Thank you for your understanding.

🚗🔒 KEEP YOUR VEHICLE SAFE AND SECURE

This is a big problem across the east, especially in Flat Bush...Did you know that many vehicle thefts and break-ins happen during the day, often when valuables are left visible inside? Most vehicle crime is opportunistic...

- Lock your vehicle every time you leave it.
- Remove valuables or keep them completely out of sight.
- Park in a well-lit, visible location whenever possible.
- Close all windows and sunroofs.
- Take your keys with you and avoid displaying personal information on keychains.
- Consider anti-theft devices such as steering wheel locks, alarms, anti-theft number plate screws, or locking wheel nuts.

For keyless vehicles, keep your keys well away from doors and windows at home to help prevent signal interference and theft.

One of the best ways to help prevent crime is to know your neighbours through your local Neighbourhood Support street group and be aware of the vehicles that belong in your street. Neighbourhood Support is working closely with Counties Manukau Police on increasing our Community Cams coverage across the area with residents and businesses (to get on board or learn more go to: https://www.communitycam.co.nz/ ). Connected communities are safer communities.
