www.rsayouthcouncil.wordpress.com The reciprocal tour is an exchange programme between the New Zealand Auckland RSA Youth Council and the Australian New South Wales RSL Youth Group every second year. Reciprocal tours were conceived by two former prisoners of war, the late Brian Sexton of Papakura RSA and the late Harry Barnes of the Hornsby RSL more than forty years ago. The aim and purpose of the
tours is to further develop our common shared heritage, set ideals and build new and everlasting friendships between us by the means of our youth, the future of our respective countries and organisations. The reciprocal tours strengthen and broaden the outlook of youth and youth clubs in each country. Each person is supplied with a uniform and flights to and from Australia paid for by the RSA that selected them. I must point out that not all RSA’s pay the whole amount, some, the young people have to make a contribution towards the cost. Travelling with them are four Managers selected by Youth Council who must be RSA members. The young people have three weekend camps prior to travelling, to put together a concert to entertain the New South Wales Returned Services League and Youth clubs. The concert costs are the responsibility of the parents or guardian. In 2015 when the Australians come here it is the responsibility of the Auckland District Youth Council to entertain them for the two weeks. It is also the responsibility of the Council to find the funding to achieve this. The council is made up of one representative from each Auckland District RSA.
