What is Kriya Yoga

Kriya Yoga is an ancient and powerful system of meditation, which promises perfect health, peace of mind and a stress-free life. The people of India have practiced it for many centuries under the guidance of trained teachers. Kriya Yoga approaches the study of the Self with a sense of reflection and introspection so that the spiritual traveler may understand the conditions of h

is / her mind. The ever-changing mind is the biggest barrier to calmness and self-realization. Kriya Yoga is the ancient path of Soul-culture and spiritual life. The life of the entire creation is breath. The life force of the entire creation is God Himself. The entire creation is permeated and pervaded with His presence. Without God, there is nothing. Everything is born in God, lives in God and merges with God like waves in the ocean. The soul is immortal, deathless, pure and divine. Because of the Soul, the body is alive, beautiful and active. Through the Soul, man does many types of work. Work in Sanskrit is derived from the root Kri. Kri means to do and Ya means the Soul. All work is done by the power of God, the living life of God, the breath; this is Kriya. Breath and Mind

In the teachings of Kriya Yoga we are taught how mind and breath are correlated: We are what our mind is and our mind is what our breath is. The significance of breath has been known to human civilizations by realized souls for thousands of years. In the middle part of the 19th century an elusive and mysterious Master Mahavatar Babaji brought this technique to the world through the lineage of Masters Sri Shyamacharan Lahiri, Swami Shriyukteswar, Swamy Sri Bhupendranath Sanyal, Paramahamsa Yogananada, Swami Sri Satyananda and beloved Gurudev Sri Paramahamsa Hariharananda. Today this lineage is continued by Sri Paramahamsa Prajnanananda. Breath is an indestructible gift of God with its own presence. Breath integrates the body and soul. Without proper breathing process, disintegration starts. The physical body starts diverging away from the soul, which is a form of death. Not only the breath, but also its quality or type, or the way each inhalation and exhalation is undertaken, is important to the evolutionary process of becoming a human being. The breath and the mind are correlated and causally connected. Through breath control one can get calmness and inner peace. In the authentic Kriya technique, one gradually regulates the breathing pattern. Meditation is the means of achieving the state of ceasing physical and mental activities completely. You can master breathing so that life will be regulated and balanced.

As you think, so you become. As is your outlook, so is your life. If you look at me, then my spiritual energy will enter through your eyes and go straight inside your brain. God has given you eyes only to perceive the Self. If you remain in bad company, you will become bad. Whenever you are in good company, keep your eyes open, so your body and your life will be purified. First you should seek asana, not as in a posture, but as sitting in the soul. You should go into it deeply, since your light, your soul, the power of God, the formless, remains here in the fontanel. He is talking, seeing and hearing. If the formless did not inhale, then your physical form would not remain in the world. So you are meditating with form and formless together. Without breath and without the soul, you will have no activity in life.

We think, “My life is miserable. My life is painful. My life is troublesome.” We must remove these memories to regain the lost memory of paradise. We are all children of God. We have divine potential. We have the talent and skill within to smile and shine with joy and love. It is not impossible; we should try.

Lahiri Mahasaya (1828–1895) was one of the greatest masters of Kriya Yoga and the direct disciple of Mahavatar Babaji.

Born in Bengal and later living in Varanasi, he lived the life of a humble householder while working as a government accountant. Yet behind this simple outer life existed a realized yogi whose spiritual presence transformed countless seekers.

In 1861, during a transfer to Ranikhet near the Himalayas, Lahiri Mahasaya was mysteriously called into the mountains by Mahavatar Babaji.

There, Babaji revealed their spiritual connection from previous births and re-initiated him into the sacred science of Kriya Yoga.

Babaji instructed him not to renounce the world, but to return to ordinary life and quietly share Kriya Yoga with sincere seekers.

Through Lahiri Mahasaya, the ancient path of Kriya Yoga flowed once again into the modern world.

His lineage later guided great masters such as Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri and Paramahansa Yogananda.

“Banat, Banat, Ban Jai.”
— “Doing, doing, one day it is done.”

Lahiri Mahasaya proved that spiritual realization is possible even while living a normal family life.

The grace of Mahavatar Babaji reached humanity once again through him.

If you want to live a life of knowledge, a life of love, a life with your eyes open, with a clear conscience and clear understanding, the understanding should come from your heart, and it should not be biased or blind.

We must not expect to understand all at once the plot of this book of life written by God. When you are reading a novel, it is considered most fascinating when you are kept in suspense about what the end will reveal. It leads you through endless mazes of intrigue and experiences, until on the last page, suddenly you find out how the hero wins. And you think, "What a fine novel that was!" In the same way you cannot understand God's novel until the end, for He is the Master Novelist.
