Today we acknowledge with deep sadness the passing of Pip Cheshire CNZM (1950β2026).
Pip was a significant figure in New Zealand architecture and a valued part of the GDSNZ family. Thoughtful, incisive, and generous with his time and ideas, he shaped not only buildings, but the way we understand and speak about architecture in Aotearoa.
Many of us will remember him from our garden tours and for his engaging presence at our Christmas gathering at Dawson & Co. He brought insight to every conversation and a deep respect for the relationship between architecture and landscape.
Pictured here in Whangapoua (10 April 2021), with his back to the architecture and his eyes to nature, the landscape and the environment β a quiet reflection of how he moved through the world.
His contribution to the built environment and to the design profession in New Zealand leaves an enduring legacy. We are grateful to have shared moments, conversations, and community with him.
Our heartfelt condolences go to Aileen and to all who loved him.
Thank you, Pip. You will be remembered. πΏπ
