At HOPE Worldwide-Pakistan, our mahi is strengthened through whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, respect, and genuine relationships with tangata whenua. These conversations help deepen our understanding of Te Ao Māori and remind us that hope is not only about imagining a better future, but about walking together to create it.

We are grateful to Paa Riikau Terry-Karepa for sharing his time, wisdom and guidance with our community.

Fruitful Meeting with Auckland Council post to our recent Social Cohesion Activities Including Treaty of Waitangi celebration, Marae Visit and Social Cohesion Event

Strengthening Social Cohesion Across Auckland
A fruitful meeting with Auckland Council to reflect on our recent social cohesion initiatives and explore opportunities for continued collaboration.

We were pleased to share the impact of activities including our Treaty of Waitangi celebration, marae visit, and intercultural social cohesion events, which have brought together people from diverse refugee, migrant and local communities to learn, connect and strengthen their sense of belonging in Aotearoa.

We greatly appreciate Auckland Council’s ongoing engagement and support as we continue working towards inclusive, connected and resilient communities where everyone feels welcomed and valued.

It was a pleasure to meet with Dr. Asif Mall UK-based Christian activist and founder of Mordecai Ministries International for a very meaningful and fruitful discussion.

We explored opportunities for future collaboration and practical ways to support vulnerable and forcibly displaced families who are seeking safety, stability, dignity, and a place they can truly call home.

Our conversation reflected a shared commitment to compassion, humanitarian support, and standing alongside people facing displacement and hardship.

We look forward to strengthening this connection and working together to create meaningful pathways of hope, protection and belonging for families in need.

A moment I will quietly carry with gratitude.

When I first received the news that I had been selected for the 2026 Social Justice & Human Rights Award, I felt deeply humbled. It made me reflect not only on the journey behind me, but on the many people, families and communities who have trusted me to walk alongside them.

For me, social work has never been about recognition. It has always been about standing beside people when life is difficult, protecting dignity, speaking up when voices are unheard, and creating opportunities for people to belong and thrive.

This recognition belongs to every person who has shared their story with me, every colleague and volunteer who has worked alongside me, every community leader and partner who has believed in our collective work, and especially my family, whose patience, sacrifices and encouragement have carried me through so much.

Awards are meaningful, but they also remind us of the responsibility to continue serving with humility, compassion and integrity.

I am sincerely grateful to ANZASW for this recognition and to everyone who has been part of this journey.

There is still much more work to do — and I remain committed to doing my small part for a more just, compassionate and inclusive Aotearoa.

A Truly Special and Humbling Moment – Social Justice & Human Rights Award 2026

I am deeply honoured to receive the 2026 Social Work Award – Social Justice & Human Rights Award from ANZASW.

This recognition reflects the collective efforts of my family, HOPE Worldwide-Pakistan team, volunteers, partners and the communities we serve.

I remain committed to advancing social justice, human rights, dignity and inclusion, especially for refugees, migrants, asylum seekers and vulnerable communities.
