🌿 Te Kotahitanga – Commemorating the Treaty of Waitangi 🌿

On Friday, 6 February 2026, HOPE Worldwide-Pakistan warmly invites our communities to come together for Te Kotahitanga — a celebration of unity, reflection, and connection.

This community-led event honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles of partnership, protection, and participation, creating space for learning, cultural sharing, and meaningful connections across diverse communities.

Te Kotahitanga is especially meaningful for newcomers, migrants, refugees, and ethnic communities, offering an opportunity to deepen understanding of Aotearoa New Zealand’s foundations and our shared future.

🌍 Family reunification is not a privilege, but a fundamental human right

HOPE Worldwide-Pakistan was proud to contribute to the Cross-Regional Stakeholder Consultation on the Asia–Arab Migration Corridor, where we amplified the voices of refugees, migrant workers, and families affected by separation.

Drawing on our frontline work with migrant and refugee communities in New Zealand and Pakistan, we highlighted that family unity is central to dignity, wellbeing, and successful settlement. Yet many low-income migrant workers and refugees—including those who later resettle in New Zealand—continue to face lengthy delays, income thresholds, and restrictive eligibility criteria that keep families apart.

At the consultation, HOPE Worldwide-Pakistan reaffirmed that:
🔹 "Family reunification is not a privilege, but a fundamental human right"

What an Incredible Cultural Night Today! 🎉

Today, people from many different cultures and communities came together in a powerful celebration of unity, diversity, and belonging.

The event opened with a Karakia and closed with a Karakia, creating a warm, respectful, and meaningful atmosphere for everyone.

It was a day of fostering manaakitanga and whanaungatanga, strengthening relationships, and promoting social inclusion across our diverse communities.

A heartfelt thank you to all performers, families, volunteers, and community members who joined us. Your presence and positive spirit made this cultural night truly special. ❤️

Together, we continue to build a stronger, more inclusive community for all.

HOPE team attended the Refugee Alliance Annual Hui today, joined by Members of Parliament who shared positive support and encouraging messages. We raised key advocacy points on family reunification and equitable access for refugees, and offered volunteer support for future events. The hui opened with a beautiful karakia by a Māori kaumātua, followed by great food and meaningful networking.

We’re thrilled to share that HOPE Worldwide–Pakistan has been shortlisted for the Decarbonisation Fund! 🎉

Through this opportunity, we plan to transition our patrol vehicles from petrol to electric vehicles (EVs) — an important step toward reducing our carbon footprint and promoting a cleaner, greener future for our communities. 🚗⚡🌿

🌍✨ Honoured to speak today at the Annual Peace Symposium 2025, hosted by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community NZ, on the theme:
“Persecution and the Moral Responsibilities of the Global Community.”

It was a privilege to share the stage with:

✅ Dr. Melissa Derby – Race Relations Commissioner
✅ Hon. Rima Nakhle – Member of Parliament (Takanini)
✅ Imam Asif Munir – Minister of Religion, Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamā’at NZ

My message was simple:
➡ Persecution anywhere is a threat to peace everywhere.
➡ Moral responsibility belongs to each of us — to speak out, protect the vulnerable, and restore dignity.

Grateful to the organisers for creating this platform to promote peace, mutual respect, and justice.
