Contestant no.: 05
Name: Abiral Paudel
Address: Pokhara
Location of the Photo: Pokhara
Photo story:
His hands move in quiet rhythm, splitting choya with practiced patience, weaving nanglo, doko, dalo not as craft alone but as survival. Each strip of bamboo carries the memory of forests that once gave freely and the hope that they still will, if treated with respect. By evening, this man will earn just enough for a single meal, one plate to silence hunger, nothing more. It is a hard truth. He is poor, and poverty shows in his tired eyes and weathered palms.
Yet there is dignity in what he does. He does not cut forests blindly, nor does he depend on plastic that chokes rivers and heats the planet. He takes what regenerates, what grows back stronger after the monsoon, and turns it into tools that serve households for years. His livelihood is simple, low carbon, and deeply sustainable, even if the world rarely notices.
This photograph is not only about hardship. It is about adaptation rooted in tradition. In a time of climate uncertainty, his community responds not with machines or emissions, but with knowledge passed from one generation to the next. Bamboo bends, but does not break. Neither does he.
He may be poor by income, but his life is a local climate solution. Quiet. Resilient. Honest

Photo story:
This photograph features Ms. Lali Sahani and her sister from Lahan, Siraha engaging in weaving baskets (Dhakiya) from bamboo. She shared that this is their ancestral occupation, my husband works abroad, and l also work locally to support her family as well. She said bamboo, a renewable natural resource, reduces reliance on plastic alternatives and promotes environmentally friendly products from it and it helped me to earn well. This image reflects how local nature friendly products along with traditional knowledge supports sustainable income generation, strengthens community resilience, and contributes to reducing the impacts of climate change through nature-based choices.
