Across the Majority World, there is a serious youth ministry leadership gap—both in the number of leaders and in access to meaningful training.

At the same time, these regions are home to the largest population of young people in the world, the vast majority of whom do not know or follow Jesus.

Investing in young people—and in culturally near leaders who can reach, disciple, and walk alongside them—is one of the most significant needs and opportunities in global missions today.

Our time in Taiwan was incredibly productive! We were able to continue our training with a core group of leaders that we have been working with for years and also start a new chapter with group in Taitung from the surrounding counties. We were also able to meet with and discuss some co-laboring ideas with Cru (campus ministry) and denominational leaders who all have a vested interest in the development of youth ministry in Taiwan. While we have a lot of challenges ahead we are so great for the small step forward we were able to take this month.

This past week, Chantel and I had the wonderful opportunity to join our fellow Nexus staff on the Wilderness Ministry team in Central Oregon for our annual team retreat.

This time together has become such an important part of our year—a chance to slow down, pray together, spend time in God’s Word, celebrate all that He has done over the past year, and look ahead to where He is leading us next.

Every few years, spouses are able to join us as well, which makes the time even more special. Ministry is rarely something we do alone, and having our wives there to share in the relationships, conversations, prayer, and vision of the team is a real gift.

And, of course, a retreat in Central Oregon gave us plenty of opportunities to rest, recharge, laugh, explore, and recreate together. We came home grateful for our team, encouraged by what God is doing, and refreshed for the year ahead.
