From Waste to Water โ€” Youth Leading the Way!
As part of the Sustainable Impact Project under the Leadership Academy โ€” run in collaboration with Global Learning Lab, Sahara Nepal, and Buddhasanti Rural Municipality Ward No. 1 โ€” youth participants took environmental action to the next level.
Following the tree plantation drive on World Environment Day, the team returned on June 14, 2026 to install a drip irrigation system to protect the saplings โ€” built entirely from discarded plastic bottles (Coke, Fanta, and others).
โ™ป๏ธ Here's what they did:
๐ŸŽ‹ Bamboo stakes were planted beside each sapling
๐Ÿผ Recycled bottles were filled with water and hung to enable slow drip irrigation
๐Ÿ’ง A simple, zero-cost, eco-friendly solution โ€” made from waste!
Special thanks to Ram Lal Koirala, Chairperson of Hadiya Khola Embankment Consumer Committee, who donated the bamboo needed for the project. The committee and local community have also committed to refilling the bottles regularly to sustain the effort.
This is what youth-led change looks like โ€” responsible, resourceful, and rooted in community. ๐ŸŒ
