🌟Last Month, we had the pleasure of working with the inspiring members of the 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 (𝗡𝗖𝗔𝗖); a child-led platform facilitated by Consortium Nepal that brings together young advocates from all seven provinces of Nepal to champion child rights and meaningful child participation. 💙

Through 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗛𝗔, these young leaders came together to sharpen their advocacy skills, deepen their understanding of child rights and governance processes and explore how evidence and research can drive change. They reflected on the challenges children face across local, provincial and federal levels and transformed their ideas into practical advocacy recommendations and action plans.

What made the workshop truly special was witnessing children take ownership of their voices questioning, analyzing, researching and envisioning solutions for issues that matter to them and their peers. 🌱💡

Today, as they continue their work in their respective provinces, we celebrate their commitment, leadership and determination to create a Nepal where every child's voice is heard and valued. 🌟

📢🌏Today is World Day Against Child Labour.

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, play, participate and grow in a safe environment. Yet, for millions of children around the world, childhood is interrupted by labour that limits their rights, potential and well-being.

Ending child labour requires more than keeping children out of work. It means ensuring access to education, strengthening protection systems and supporting families and communities with opportunities for sustainable and dignified livelihoods. 🧩

Across Nepal, we are supporting children affected by exploitation in Adult Entertainment Sectors, facilitating the safe return and reintegration of children rescued from different parts of India, promoting meaningful child participation and strengthening child protection mechanisms at local level to help create safer environments for children.🛡️✨

The discussion brought together representatives from government agencies, law enforcement bodies, constitutional commissions, legal institutions, civil society organizations and youth networks to exchange perspectives and strengthen collaboration.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗱:
➡️Online recruitment and digital trafficking
➡️Child grooming through social media and public spaces
➡️Labor exploitation through deceptive job offers
➡️Cyber scam compounds targeting young people
➡️Exploitation through legal migration channels
➡️The growing use of technology and social networks by traffickers

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗱:
✔️ Human trafficking often begins disguised as an opportunity, a trusted contact, or an attractive offer.
✔️ Awareness, critical thinking and informed decision-making are essential for prevention.
✔️ Stronger coordination among government agencies, civil society, youth networks and communities is critical to addressing emerging trafficking trends.

The discussion reinforced the need for continued collaboration and collective action to address emerging trafficking trends and build safer communities for all.

🏛️Through 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗛𝗔, Consortium-Nepal organized the 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 in Gandaki Province from 29-31 May 2026, bringing together 31 young leaders from across the province.

👥The initiative provided a meaningful platform for children and young people to engage with democratic processes, strengthen their leadership skills and contribute their perspectives on issues affecting children in their communities. Through experiential learning and active participation, participants gained valuable insights into representation, dialogue and decision-making.

🤝The event concluded with the presence of Hon. Rekha Gurung from the Ministry of Social Development, Youth and Sports, Gandaki Province Government; Hon. Damayanti Ruchal from the Social Development and Agriculture Committee of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly and Mr. Badri Wagle from the NCRC Gandaki Province Office along with representatives from NGO Federation Gandaki Province, journalists, social activists, child rights practitioners and member organizations of Consortium Nepal. The event reinforced the importance of ensuring meaningful participation of children and young people in governance processes.

🌱 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻.

Fifteen rights holders from Opportunity Village Nepal (OVN) recently completed a five-day 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 (𝗦𝗜𝗬𝗕) 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, an internationally recognized entrepreneurship training programme developed by the International Labour Organization.

✨ The participants brought with them diverse experiences and aspirations. Some had previously faced business failures and were determined to start again with stronger knowledge and confidence. Others were taking their first steps toward entrepreneurship, eager to turn their ideas into sustainable ventures.

Led by facilitator 𝗕𝗵𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗶 𝗣𝘂𝗻, the training provided a participatory learning space where ideas were explored, challenges were discussed openly and business concepts were transformed into practical plans.

📈 Over five days, participants learned how to identify business opportunities, understand markets, manage finances and develop business plans. More importantly, they gained the confidence and skills needed to move their ideas forward.

This training was more than a learning opportunity - it was a platform for resilience, growth and new beginnings. We wish all participants success as they take the next steps in their entrepreneurial journeys. 💡

In May 2026, a coordinated cross-border rescue operation successfully brought 453 Nepali nationals to safety after they had fallen victim to labor exploitation and a fraudulent chain-business scam in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, India. The operation was carried out through the joint efforts of the Embassy of Nepal in India, Uttar Pradesh Police, KIN India, GSIF Nepal and Opportunity Village Nepal (OVN).

Many of the individuals had been lured by promises of attractive employment opportunities and later became trapped in exploitative conditions linked to deceptive recruitment and fraudulent business practices. Their rescue highlights the ongoing risks faced by migrant workers and job seekers who are targeted by such schemes.

This case underscores the need for greater awareness of safe migration practices, stronger protection mechanisms and continued cooperation among governments, law enforcement agencies, civil society organizations and communities. By working together, we can help prevent labor exploitation, human trafficking and other forms of abuse while ensuring that vulnerable individuals have access to support and protection.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all government authorities, law enforcement agencies, partner organizations and frontline responders whose collaboration and dedication made this operation possible and helped ensure the safety and protection of the affected individuals.

We are honored to stand alongside fellow organizations in advancing social entrepreneurship as a pathway toward inclusive growth, innovation, climate resilience and sustainable development in Nepal. Held on 25th - 26th May 2026 under the theme “𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆,” the summit brought together social entrepreneurs, policymakers, investors, development partners, academics, civil society representatives and youth leaders from across the country.

The summit successfully fostered dialogue, partnerships and collective commitment toward strengthening Nepal’s social entrepreneurship ecosystem. The concluding 𝗡𝗶𝗻𝗲-𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 “𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻” highlighted the urgent need for legal recognition, financing mechanisms, policy reforms and inclusive support systems for social enterprises nationwide.

We are proud to contribute to initiatives that empower youth and women, promote innovation, strengthen local economies and accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. 🌍💡

📍 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺𝘀 | 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗴

The National Child Rights Council (NCRC) in coordination with the District Coordination Committee, Manang, under Project AASTHA successfully conducted a district-level workshop on the implementation of the Act Relating to Children, 2075.

The workshop was chaired by Mr. Chin Bahadur Ghale, Head of the District Coordination Committee, Manang. District Coordination Officer, Mr. Ananta Kumar Basnet highlighted the objectives of the workshop, while Mr. Badri Prasad Wagle, Provincial Coordination Officer (Gandaki Province) of the NCRC, presented on the existing legal provisions related to children, their implementation status, and the overall situation of children in Manang district.

Representatives from local governments shared updates on child-focused programs and institutional mechanisms at their respective local levels. The workshop brought together local representatives, Chief Administrative Officers, Child Welfare Officers, security agencies, and other concerned stakeholders.

The workshop concluded with a collective 9-point commitment toward the effective implementation of the Act Relating to Children, 2075 and strengthening child rights and protection in Manang District.

Under the Cross-Border Sub-Project of Project AASTHA, a one-day orientation event for duty bearers on Anti-Human Trafficking (AHT) was successfully conducted in Siddharthanagar, Bhairahawa, Rupandehi. The event brought together representatives from local governments, Nepal Police and CSOs to strengthen collaboration and coordination in combating human trafficking.

Honorable Deputy Mayor of Siddharthanagar Municipality, Mrs. Uma Adhikari, appreciated the project’s efforts in addressing both cross-border and internal trafficking cases in the district.

The event featured interactive sessions facilitated by:
🔹 Mr. Satya Narayan Yadav on Project AASTHA and Nepal Government’s National policy on AHT
🔹 Advocate Sunil Tripathi on existing laws and recent trafficking trends
🔹 Nepal Police Inspector Ms. Kalpana Gharti on legal procedures in trafficking cases
🔹 Mr. Naveen Joshi, Director of KIN India, New Delhi, on rescue and repatriation of survivors from India to Nepal

Participants highlighted the need for stronger coordination among duty bearers and emphasized that rapidly changing trafficking trends require innovative strategies and collective action.

Continuing the Capacity Development Events across various municipalities of Gandaki Province, a 𝗢𝗻𝗲-𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 was successfully conducted in Gharapjhong Rural Municipality of Manang District.

Following successful sessions in Modi Rural Municipality and Jaljala Rural Municipality of Parbat District, as well as Machhapuchchhre Rural Municipality of Kaski, this initiative continues to strengthen local mechanisms for child protection and child rights governance. 🌱

Implemented under the 𝗔𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗛𝗔 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 of GSIF Nepal and led by the 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 (𝗡𝗖𝗥𝗖), the event aimed to enhance the capacity of Local Child Rights Committee members and key stakeholders within the municipality.

Chaired by Ms. Jamuna Thapa Magar, Vice Chairperson of Gharapjhong Rural Municipality, the session was facilitated by Ms. Sarita Thakali, Child Welfare Officer of the municipality. The event brought together the Chief Administrative Officer, Ward Chairpersons, members of the Local Child Rights Committee, representatives of the Municipal Child Club Network, and various local organizations dedicated to promoting and protecting child rights. 🤝

The discussions focused on legal provisions related to children, roles and responsibilities of the Local Child Rights Committee and Child Welfare Officer and the importance of child-friendly local governance.
