Chhori (NEP: daughter) is a non-governmental and nonprofit organization that was established in 2013 in Lalitpur, Nepal. The organization is headed by women and girls who suffered from different forms of violence and discrimination. Chhori will be the premier advocate for women and children facing discrimination, and service provider to facilitate change. It is dedicated to promoting, protecting a

nd advocating the rights of women and children in Nepal, and to empowering these to make positive change in society.

4 years ago, she arrived at Chhori carrying pain no child should ever have to carry.

She was struggling with severe mental health challenges, emotional distress, and self-harm. There were moments when hope felt very far away.

But healing happened slowly 🌱
Through counselling.
Through care.
Through people who did not give up on her.

After dropping out of school, she made the courageous decision to start again 📚

And this year… she passed her SEE exam 🇳🇵✨

Today, she came back to Chhori with sweets in her hands and happiness in her smile 💛

A moment that reminds us:
healing is possible.
And every girl deserves the chance to rebuild her future ❤️

This year, 25 girls associated with Chhori successfully passed their SEE examinations 🎉👏

Four years ago, this girl arrived at Chhori carrying pain that words could barely describe.

During the COVID period, she came to our shelter struggling with severe mental health challenges, deep emotional distress, and repeated self-harm. There were days when even getting through the next hour felt impossible. It was one of the most difficult journeys both for her and for the Chhori team.

For years, she received counselling, treatment, emotional care, and constant support. Progress came slowly. Quietly. Sometimes painfully.

But healing does not always happen loudly.
Sometimes healing looks like staying.
Trying again.
Surviving one more day. 🌱

After dropping out of school when she moved from her village to Kathmandu, she made a decision that changed everything:
she wanted to study again.

And this year, she passed her SEE examination — one of the most important school-level exams in Nepal 🇳🇵📚✨

Today, she came back to Chhori carrying sweets in her hands, smiling as she shared her happiness with the people who once sat beside her in her darkest moments 💛

Moments like this remind us why long-term care matters.
Because behind every statistic is a girl fighting quietly to believe that life can still become something beautiful again.

Real change in schools begins by listening to the people most affected. 📚🤝

Chhori recently conducted school visits and meetings with School Management Committees, teachers, parents, and girls’ club members to review the progress of our programs through a participatory approach.

These discussions created important spaces to reflect together on what is working well, what challenges still exist, and what can be improved in the next phase of the program. By involving schools, families, and girls directly in the conversation, we are able to better understand the realities on the ground and ensure that programs remain meaningful, safe, and responsive to their needs.

For us, monitoring is not only about reporting results — it is about listening to the voices of the community and building solutions together 🌱

The participation of girls themselves remains especially important. Their experiences, ideas, and feedback help shape stronger and more effective support systems within schools and communities.

Together, we continue working toward safer learning environments and better opportunities for every girl ✨

Chhori had the pleasure of welcoming Alex and Diana from the fundación vicente ferrer to our organization.

During the visit, we had meaningful discussions about our ongoing projects and shared the realities, challenges, and lived experiences of girls and women involved in the adult entertainment sector and the vulnerable girls from schools . The interaction with the girls was a powerful moment of connection, learning, and solidarity.

On behalf of Chhori, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Alex and Diana for taking the time to visit us, listen to the voices of the girls and women, and stand in solidarity with our mission. A new beginning. 💛

One of the girls supported by Chhori has officially started her new job in the field of marketing. What may seem like a simple job placement is, in reality, a major milestone in rebuilding independence, confidence, and stability after experiencing vulnerability and institutional care.

At Chhori, we believe empowerment does not end with protection.
Real reintegration means helping girls regain trust in themselves, develop skills, access opportunities, and confidently enter professional life again. 🌱

Behind this achievement were many small but important steps — emotional support, encouragement, skill-building, guidance, and standing beside her while she prepared for this next chapter.

Today, she is not only earning an income.
She is building her own future. ✨

This is why long-term support matters.
Because every girl deserves the opportunity to live independently, safely, and with dignity.

Hira Dahal, Executive Director of Chhori, participated in the Women Deliver Conference 2026 in Australia — one of the world’s most important global platforms advancing gender equality, women’s rights, and the protection of girls. 👩‍⚖️🌍

Why do spaces like this matter so much?

Because decisions about girls’ lives are too often made without girls being part of the conversation. 🗣️

Across the world, millions of girls continue to face violence, exploitation, child marriage, lack of education, unsafe migration, and limited access to healthcare and protection. Yet their realities remain underrepresented in political discussions, development agendas, and international decision-making spaces.

Women Deliver brings together governments, activists, organizations, and young leaders to push these issues into the global spotlight — where they belong. 🌍✨

This year’s discussions focused on girls’ leadership, gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), climate justice 🌱, and the urgent need to center marginalized voices in policy and public discourse.

For Chhori, participation in this conference is not symbolic.It is part of a larger responsibility:to ensure that the realities faced by vulnerable girls are not overlooked, softened, or forgotten. 🤍

Because girls are not a side issue in development. ✊Their safety 🛡️, education 📚, dignity, and freedom are fundamental to the future of every society.

When disasters strike, risks don’t just come from nature — they come from increased vulnerability, displacement, and breakdown of protection systems. For girls and women, this often means a higher risk of trafficking, exploitation, and abuse.

Chhori participated in a specialized workshop led by Freedom in Disasters (FiD) focused on preventing human trafficking in disaster contexts. Why this matters: prevention at this stage can stop exploitation before it happens — when systems are weakest and risks are highest.

We also contributed to the launch of the International Standard for Counter Human Trafficking Programming in Disasters. Establishing global standards is critical. It creates accountability, guides governments and NGOs, and ensures that protection is not optional — but integrated into every emergency response.

Another key impact: survivors were not only represented — they were empowered. Through the handicraft exhibition organized by FiD, women had the opportunity to generate income, rebuild independence, and be seen beyond their experiences.

This is what effective anti-trafficking work looks like:

✔ Systems that protect, even in crisis
✔ Survivors leading their own recovery

A moment of gratitude. A story of strength.

Today, a young woman visited Chhori to say thank you. She brought sweets — a simple gesture, carrying a powerful story.

She was once at risk of child marriage. With support, she found safety, continued her education, and is now completing her Bachelor’s degree. Today, she is working in another organization — supporting and protecting girls who face similar risks.

Her journey is her own. We share it with respect — not to define her by her past, but to recognise her strength, her progress, and her future.

This is what change can look like:
From vulnerability to independence.
From silence to action.

We remain committed to creating safe spaces where girls can rebuild their lives — with dignity, choice, and opportunity.

🌱 Mental Health is Protection

In many communities, girls grow up carrying invisible burdens — stress, fear, and emotional pressure that often go unseen.

💬 Through our Girls Club sessions, we create safe spaces where girls can:

काठमाडौंका बस्ती खाली गरिने चर्चा फेरि उठिरहेको छ। तर यो विषयलाई एउटा बालबालिका र किशोरीको आँखाबाट पनि हेरौँ।

एउटा सानो बच्चा, जो आमाको पेटमै हुँदा यही बस्तीमा थियो। यहीँ जन्मियो, यहीँ हुर्कियो, यहीँ हिँड्न सिक्यो, यहीँ साथी बनायो। यहीँ उसको स्कूल जाने बाटो छ, यहीँ उसको संसार छ, यहीँ उसले सुरक्षित महसुस गर्छ। अब यदि अचानक भनियो—“यो ठाउँ खाली गर” भने, त्यो बच्चाको मनमा कस्तो आँधी चल्ला?

केवल एक महिनाको कार्यक्रमको सिलसिलामा बस्तीमा पुग्दा पनि धेरै किशोरीहरू खाना समेत नखाई स्कूल गएको भेटिए। उनीहरूका आमाबुबा बिहानैदेखि दैनिक गुजाराका लागि काममा निस्किएका थिए। कतिपयका अभिभावक त नेपाल बाहिर छन्। उनीहरूको जीवन पहिलेदेखि नै गरिबी, असुरक्षा, पढाइको दबाब, हेरचाहको अभाव र हजारौँ चुनौतीबीच चलिरहेको छ।

यस्तो अवस्थामा “बस्ती हटाउने” खबर मात्रले पनि उनीहरूको मनमा डर, अन्योल र अस्थिरता थप्छ। जसले बिहानको खाना नखाई स्कूल जानुपर्छ, उसलाई साँझ घर फर्कँदा घर नै नरहने चिन्ता भयो भने उसको पढाइमा कस्तो असर पर्ला? उसको मानसिक स्वास्थ्यमा कति गहिरो चोट पुग्ला?

बालबालिकाका लागि घर केवल चार पर्खाल होइन—सुरक्षा हो, सम्झना हो, खेल्ने आँगन हो, साथीहरूको हाँसो हो, राति निदाउँदा नडराउने ठाउँ हो। जबरजस्ती हटाइँदा उनीहरूले घर मात्र गुमाउँदैनन्—शिक्षा, स्थिरता, मित्रता, आत्मविश्वास र भविष्यप्रतिको आशा पनि गुमाउन सक्छन्।

काठमाडौं उपत्यकाका विभिन्न अनौपचारिक बस्तीहरूमा हजारौँ परिवार बस्छन्, जहाँ अनुमानित हजारौँ बालबालिका र किशोरीहरू पनि छन्। बस्ती व्यवस्थापनको नाममा उनीहरूको भविष्य नउजाडियोस्।

विकास चाहिन्छ, तर मानवीय विकास।
व्यवस्था चाहिन्छ, तर बालमैत्री व्यवस्था।
निर्णय चाहिन्छ, तर बालबालिकाको आवाज सुनेर।

उनीहरू समस्या होइनन्, उनीहरू हाम्रो भविष्य हुन्।
