See how Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, a Grade 8 student at Sawa Secondary School in Sawa village, Taplejung, shares a story about snow leopards with her classmates and school community. The school encourages students to come forward and share their knowledge, experiences, perceptions, and learning from the snow leopard conservation books. This is how the Community-Based Snow Leopard Conservation Project works with schools to empower students as voices for snow leopard conservation.

Lupra Basic School is situated at 3,200 meters in the central snow leopard landscape of the Annapurna Conservation Area. Students of Grade 8 study the Snow Leopard Conservation Education Reference Book throughout the academic year. Recently, we had the opportunity to visit the school and interact with the students. They live in steep, rugged terrain with a river, towering mountains, and frequently see the snow leopard's prey species, the blue sheep, around their school premises-promoting coexistence between people and snow leopards.

We are pleased to share that the recently published article "Snow Leopard (Panthera uncia): Status in Nepal" in Snow Leopard Reports (2026) has highlighted the integration of snow leopard conservation modules into school curricula in Mustang and Taplejung districts.

This recognition reflects years of collaborative efforts by Teka Samuha Nepal, local governments, schools, teachers, students, conservation partners, and communities to bring snow leopard conservation from the mountains into classrooms.

The snow leopard education books and curriculum materials developed through the Community-Based Snow Leopard Conservation Project (CBSLCP) are helping foster awareness, stewardship, and positive behavioral change among young learners in Nepal's Himalayan landscapes.

We are grateful to all partners, educators, and students who have contributed to this achieve
