We started off as a group of ten Nepali students who wanted to assist the rebuilding of Nepal in the aftermath of the May 2015 earthquake, which devastated multiple communities and took away numerous lives in Nepal. Much of the fundraising was done at Lafayette College, Easton, USA by selling earrings, Nepali dumplings and collecting donations and the sponsorship of individual donors. With this fu
nd, we helped build four houses for physically and financially challenged individuals; specifically for widows and a mentally challenged individual with a lovely family. The coming together of like minded individuals who wished to worked towards building a better and brighter Nepal led to the foundation of the NGO: Sahaayam Nepal. Our first project is to build one library per public school in Nepal with the understanding that most underprivileged kids attend public schools. Our goal is to assist in a holistic development of the Nepali society through activities like educational efforts, promotion of local skills and resources, working towards building a more inclusive and tolerant society by working with the youth and underprivileged groups.
