2026/04/17 GCN x IUCN Nepal Partner Consultation on Act4Nature Nepal

April 17, 2026; Friday.

Global Compact Nepal (GCN) convened a partner consultation with the IUCN Nepal National Committee to present the proposal for establishing Act4Nature Nepal; a multi-stakeholder private sector biodiversity commitment platform for Nepal, initiated as a country chapter of Act4Nature International.

The session drew on the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, adopted at CBD COP15 in December 2022, which outlines 23 targets for 2030, including the landmark 30x30 goal. Against this backdrop, the consultation examined how Nepal’s private sector can be integrated into a structured, science-based approach to biodiversity action for the first time.

The discussion centred on the proposed governance structure of Act4Nature Nepal, the two-tier commitment architecture of Act4Nature International, ten CEO-signed Common Commitments establishing baseline standards, and individually tailored SMART-verified commitments assessed for specificity, measurability, additionality, realism, and time-bound deliverability.

We sincerely thank the IUCN Nepal National Committee for their time, engagement, and thoughtful consideration of this proposal. We also extend our appreciation to all participants for contributing to what we hope is the beginning of a consequential partnership for Nepal's biodiversity.

Participants also reflected on the importance of building internal awareness and institutional capacity to translate BHR principles into operational decision-making.

We sincerely thank Harpreet Kaur for her time, insights, and valuable guidance on advancing the Business and Human Rights agenda in Nepal and the wider Asia-Pacific region. We also extend our appreciation to all participants for contributing to a meaningful and forward-looking dialogue.

2026/04/12 GCN x Tracy Bialek (OzHarvest Australia) Meeting

April 12, 2026; Sunday.

Global Compact Network Nepal (GCN) met with Tracy Bialek, Chief Operating Officer of OzHarvest Australia, to discuss the operational model of food rescue systems and explore pathways for contextualizing and implementing a similar initiative in Nepal.

Key areas of discussion included beneficiary selection frameworks and the importance of capturing and communicating impact stories, not only as a means of accountability but as a powerful tool to build trust, visibility, and stakeholder engagement. The potential to tap into airline food waste was also explored, particularly through structured incentives such as tax benefits for donated food, which could encourage private sector participation at scale.

Further, the dialogue examined revenue model considerations to ensure long-term sustainability beyond donor dependency, alongside critical operational factors such as logistics coordination, cold chain requirements, and last-mile delivery challenges. Regulatory dimensions were also discussed, including the need for enabling policies, such as food safety standards and good Samaritan protections, to de-risk participation for donors and partners.

The expected outcomes of such an initiative were framed not only in terms of reducing food waste but also in advancing food security, strengthening community resilience, and fostering a culture of responsible consumption within Nepal’s private sector ecosystem.

We sincerely thank Tracy Bialek for her time, generosity in sharing insights, and willingness to support the adaptation of a globally successful model into the Nepali context. We look forward to continued engagement and collaboration in shaping a robust and locally relevant food rescue ecosystem.

2026/04/09 GCN x Zite

April 9, 2026; Thursday.

Global Compact Nepal (GCN) met with Justin Henceroth, CEO and Co-Founder, and Nikita Rajbhandari, Co-Founder and CXO of Zite.

GCN, in collaboration with Zite, has been developing an ESG assessment tool aimed at supporting member companies in strengthening their sustainability practices. The tool is designed to enable businesses to evaluate their performance across Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) parameters and generate an overall ESG score, providing a clear snapshot of their current standing.

Currently in its final stages of development, the tool is being carefully refined to ensure it is both practical and relevant across diverse sectors. Once launched, it will be made available to GCN member companies, supporting them in tracking progress, identifying areas for improvement, and adopting a more structured and strategic approach to their sustainability journey.

GCN extends its sincere appreciation to the Zite team for their continued collaboration and valuable contribution in advancing this initiative.

This Earth Day on April 22, 2026, Global Compact Nepal in collaboration with Park Village Resort and Buddha Maya Gardens, as part of their ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), sustainability, and community engagement efforts, is leading a meaningful initiative at Shivapuri National Park to take collective action for the environment. Earth Day reminds us of our shared responsibility to protect and preserve the natural world.

We are organizing a Shivapuri Cleanup Campaign, which is more than a one-day effort, as it is a step toward safeguarding biodiversity, reducing pollution, and encouraging more mindful engagement with nature. Focusing on this vital ecosystem highlights the importance of protecting the spaces that sustain us.

Through collaboration and community participation, this initiative reflects a growing commitment to sustainability and responsible action.

Please join hands with us tomorrow as we come together to leave Shivapuri cleaner, greener, and better than we found it, because real change begins with each of us.

2026/04/08 GCN x Srichchha Pradhan Meeting

April 8, 2026; Wednesday.

Global Compact Network Nepal (GCN) engaged in a dialogue with Srichchha Pradhan, Miss Nepal World 2023, to explore potential collaboration around a Food Waste Initiative, with a focus on embedding sustainability within a broader, systems-oriented, and culturally rooted framework.

The exchange moved beyond conventional waste management approaches, exploring the integration of Panchtatva as a philosophical and operational lens, recognizing the interconnectedness of the five elements in shaping responsible consumption and waste cycles. A significant emphasis was placed on the inclusion of indigenous knowledge systems and communities, particularly in designing climate-responsive solutions that are both locally grounded and regenerative in nature.

The interaction also introduced the idea of compassion-centric frameworks, positioning empathy, ethical responsibility, and mindful resource use at the core of interventions addressing food waste and climate challenges. These approaches were seen not merely as conceptual ideals but as practical pathways to reshape behavioral patterns, institutional practices, and community engagement models.

We sincerely thank, Srichchha Pradhan for her time, thoughtful perspectives, and openness to reimagining sustainability through a more holistic and inclusive lens. We look forward to further developing these ideas into actionable collaborations that align environmental responsibility with cultural wisdom and social equity.

April 8, 2026; Wednesday.

Global Compact Network Nepal (GCN) connected with the Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Centre (SIRC) for a meaningful exchange focused on advancing inclusion and creating opportunities for persons with disabilities.

During the visit, we observed SIRC’s rehabilitation facilities, therapy spaces, and training center where individuals are supported in building skills for independent and dignified living. The interaction provided a closer understanding of their work while also leading to discussions on practical collaboration, including employment opportunities through an accessible felt factory, jointly developing future project proposals for upcoming international engagements, and exploring partnerships with international stakeholders, along with the possibility of hosting GCN’s annual December event at SIRC to further promote disability inclusion.

GCN expresses its heartfelt appreciation to Esha Thapa, Executive Director at SIRC; Rejee Budhathoki, Case Management Coordinator; and Prabesh Bista, Counseling and Therapy professional at SIRC, for the warm reception and for providing deeper insight into their impactful work in advancing rehabilitation and inclusion.
