Monthly Clinical Meeting Report – Society of Surgeons of Nepal (SSN)

The Society of Surgeons of Nepal (SSN) successfully conducted its Monthly Clinical Meeting on 23rd August 2025 at GP Sharma Hall, IOM, Maharajgunj. The session gathered surgical residents, consultants, and faculty members from various specialties for a morning of interactive learning and academic exchange. A total of nine diverse and high-quality case presentations were delivered by residents across multiple surgical disciplines. Each presentation offered unique clinical insights and encouraged engaging discussion, reinforcing SSN’s commitment to continuous medical education and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Scientific Presentations:
“Double Trouble: Double Survival”
Adhikari Milan – MS Resident, Department of CTVS
A case showcasing the successful management of two concurrent life-threatening conditions through timely diagnosis and multidisciplinary coordination.
“Resection to Recovery”
Gyawali Bal Krishna – MS Resident, Department of General Surgery
Focused on post-operative recovery following major abdominal resection, emphasizing the importance of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols.
“Expanding the Boundaries of Curative Resection in Carcinoma Gallbladder”
Pandey Sampanna – MCh Resident, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology
Discussed advanced surgical strategies in gallbladder carcinoma with an aim toward achieving curative resection in complex presentations.
“Unique Presentation of Renal Mass”
Prakash Saumitra – MS Resident, Department of Urology and Kidney Transplant
An unusual renal mass case that emphasized diagnostic accuracy and careful surgical planning.
“Growth Beyond Limits”
Sah Gunjan Kumar – MS Resident, Department of General Surgery
Explored the clinical challenges posed by a massive abnormal growth and the surgical techniques employed for its management.
“Unmasking the Unusual Behind the Usual”
Sah Homendra – MS Resident, Department of General Surgery
A common clinical presentation that led to a rare and unexpected diagnosis, stressing the need for thorough evaluation.
“Multimodal Approach in Limb Salvage in a Diabetic Foot Ulcer”
Shah Subash – MS Resident, Department of Plastic Surgery & Burn
Demonstrated the effectiveness of an interdisciplinary approach in salvaging a limb threatened by severe diabetic complications.
“MIS Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy for Cervical Radiculopathy”
Shrestha Biswas – MCh Resident, Department of Neurosurgery
A detailed account of a minimally invasive spinal procedure, highlighting its role in reducing recovery time and improving outcomes.
“Short History of a Long Tail in Pediatric Surgery”
Verma Rupesh – MCh Resident, Department of Pediatric Surgery
Presented a rare pediatric anomaly with a focus on embryological development and surgical correction.
Closing Remarks:
The meeting was formally concluded by Dr. Romeo Kansakar, President of the Society of Surgeons of Nepal, who expressed his gratitude to the presenters for their excellent contributions and to the audience for their active participation. Dr. Kansakar also took the opportunity to share two important announcements:
The upcoming SSN Executive Committee Election, which will be held this year.
The International Surgical Conference 2025, being organized by SSN, which promises to bring together national and international experts for academic exchange, collaboration, and innovation in surgery.
He encouraged all members to actively engage in both events and contribute to the collective progress of the surgical community in Nepal.

Celebration of Dr. Sudeep Kumar Bhattacharya's 90th Birthday:
The meeting concluded with a heartfelt celebration of the 90th birthday of Senior Surgeon Dr. Sudeep Kumar Bhattacharya. Dr. Bhattacharya’s remarkable contributions to the field of surgery and his dedication to mentoring generations of surgeons were recognized. The attendees expressed their deep respect and admiration for his lifelong commitment to the surgical community, and the occasion added an extra layer of warmth and gratitude to the event.
