Drokpo Nepal

Drokpo Nepal Drokpo Nepal (“Drokpo”) is a youth-led NGO dedicated to strengthen the resilience of Tibetan and Himalayan communities while promoting women’s health

Established in 2004, Drokpo Nepal is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering empowerment and advocacy for the Himalayan and Tibetan communities in Nepal. We originated from a collective of youthful visionaries driven by the desire to enact positive change within the community. The term “Drokpo,” signifying “friend” in Tibetan, embodies the core values of our organization. It reflects our

commitment to be a supportive ally to anyone in need, irrespective of the circumstances. Drokpo Nepal’s primary objective is to fortify the resilience of Tibetan and Himalayan people living in Nepal. Operating as a grassroots entity, Drokpo proactively involves itself in numerous initiatives focused on enhancing the livelihoods and economic foundations of Tibetan individuals. The organization stands out for its dedicated efforts in addressing pivotal aspects, including the improvement of Tibetan and Himalayan people’s livelihoods and economic prospects, as well as the promotion of women’s reproductive health and mental well-being within the community, whose initiatives are executed through culturally sensitive approaches delivered in their native language. Today, we continue to be a voice for the Himalayan people and work to enrich our community by fostering cross-cultural understanding and economic empowerment. Together, we can make a difference and build a sustainable future. We believe that there is still a lot more to do than what we have done. Let’s work together—count yourself in to make a difference. His Holiness, The Dalai Lama said, “If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a room with a mosquito.”

Drokpo Nepal is a registered non-profit organization based in Kathmandu, Nepal. Our work depends on the support of individual donors and grants, and 99% of the funds raised go directly into funding our community programs.

We are thrilled to share that we have successfully completed Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) and pad-making training across the Upper Mustang region of Gandaki Province, Nepal. Through this initiative, we reached 5 wards, 10 villages, and one nunnery.

During this field visit, we had the privilege of engaging with more than 250 participants and stakeholders across different levels of the community. The journey was a powerful reflection of community cohesion, collective support, women’s leadership, and the vital roles played by Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs) and mothers’ groups.

This training went beyond MHM and pad-making - it was about empowering local leadership, strengthening women’s confidence, fostering community participation, and creating lasting social impact.

We are deeply grateful to Conscious Connections Foundation- CCF : Conscious Connection Nepal for their generous support and partnership. We extend our heartfelt thanks to every participant, supporter, and community member who made this journey meaningful and inspiring.

On 7 April (Friday), 7–8 PM (Nepal Time) / 9:15–10:15 AM Eastern Time, we had a session on financial literacy with Tsewang la , a former professional from Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch and now an entrepreneur. We believe the session was very useful and insightful for our scholarship students.

Today, we hosted a first aid awareness session for our scholarship recipient students at the Drokpo Office. What began as a basic introduction quickly evolved into a rich, reflective discussion, one where many students discovered that common responses to emergencies are not always the right ones.

Rather than a one-way lesson, the session became a genuine exchange of ideas. Students actively participated, challenged assumptions, and learned from one another’s experiences. It was encouraging to see how a little foundational knowledge could spark so much curiosity and awareness around saving lives in critical moments.

We look forward to organizing more practical, hands-on learning sessions like this in the future.

The Drokpo team has successfully completed a 3-day TOT training on MHM and SRHR and is looking forward to two more days of training on Basic First Aid.

Throughout the sessions, we actively engaged in different parts of the training, highlighting key issues related to menstrual health and hygiene in Trans-Himalayan communities.

We also shared good practices from the Himalayan region and represented the voices and lived experiences of these communities, contributing perspectives on training, practices, and advocacy.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Conscious Connection Nepal (CCN) for organizing and facilitating this meaningful training.
