✨ We are grateful for our collaboration with Suklagandhaki Palika and are honored to receive recognition for our work in Girls Education and Gender Equality centered on a multi-year life skills support.

In collaboration with local government and our implementing partner Suryodaya Club, we have been supporting young adolescents through life skills sessions, mentoring programs, and meaningful engagement with parents and communities to help students stay in school longer and thrive.

One of the most important highlights from past few years has been strengthening the capacity of focal teachers in delivering life skills education. By equipping teachers with these skills, we are helping ensure that the knowledge and practices remain within the schools and communities even beyond our program.

A four-day training in Kapilvastu brought together educators from 48 schools across Mayadevi, Kapilvastu, and Buddhabhumi Palikas to strengthen early grade literacy instruction by using Awadhi as a bridge language to support Nepali language learning, with support from our partner Peace Nepal .

While Nepali serves as the official language of instruction, many children in Kapilvastu begin school primarily speaking Awadhi. When teaching starts in an unfamiliar language, students often struggle to fully engage with learning.

Through this training, educators explored how Awadhi-based references, teaching strategies, and supplementary learning materials can help children gradually build confidence and foundational literacy in Nepali.

After seven years of learning, mentoring, and growing together through Room to Read’s Gender Equality Portfolio, our girls from Nuwakot district have successfully completed their Secondary Education Examination and are now preparing for the next chapter of their lives.

This milestone reflects the collective efforts of communities, dedicated social mobilizers, and our valued partner RUDEC Nepal, who have supported girls throughout their educational journey.

Welcoming the New Year alongside this achievement makes the moment even more special symbolizing renewal, opportunity, and hope as these young women step forward with confidence into new beginnings.

Every child deserves the joy of reading. Quality, age-appropriate books not only spark imagination but also build confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love for learning.

We create children's book every year that are age appropriate and books that reflect readers' own lives, identities, cultures, and experiences back to them

Glimpses from a Life Skills training session with teachers in Tanahun District, conducted with the support of our partner सुर्योदय क्लब स्यांग्जा.

Through these sessions, teachers are strengthening their capacity to create safe and inclusive learning spaces where both girls and boys develop essential life skills. These skills are delivered to students from Grades 6–12, supporting adolescents to build confidence, communication abilities, critical thinking, and decision-making skills for life beyond the classroom.

Achieving an equal world for all will require multi-faceted and multi-layer approach but all of that cannot only limit to asking girls and women to empower and built stronger but for the community to change. It will require a transformative approach that includes both girls and boys and equal partners. “ Reema Shrestha, Director, Gender Equality Portfolio for South Asia

Addressing linguistic needs is essential to ensure equitable learning outcomes for every child.
In Kapilvastu, we are developing learning materials in Awadhi—first language of many children in the region. By introducing concepts first in students’ local language, teachers help children understand better, build confidence, and stay engaged in learning.

Parents are powerful partners in girls’ education.

Across all four districts, our parent workshops bring families and caregivers together to reflect on social norms, expectations, and barriers that affect whether girls can continue their education. Because when communities support girls, futures change.

We conduct these session in all the school we work that helps us to better meet the need of students and quickly respond during crises that create barrier to learning.

"Even the most confident, capable girls face barriers when their communities — and the boys and men around them are not on the same path. If a girl is taught to speak up in class, but her male classmates interrupt or mock her, the lesson is lost. If she’s encouraged to dream of a career, but her brother or father expect her to stay home, her options shrink. "
