Migrant Women Workers Group - MWWG

Migrant Women Workers Group - MWWG The organization is working for the migrant women workers group to promote safe migration through entrepreneurship development How are we doing this?

Migrant Women Workers Group (MWWG) is working with a local network to identify and engage primarily women and men who are at risk of being trafficked as a result of the vulnerability of their situation. This can be due to:
• being displaced from their home because of the earthquakes of April 2015 or due to migration thereby forced to seek work in the city,
• being over-ambitious to secure a foreig

n job and therefore open to abuse by agents, who exploit their enthusiasm without full understanding of the situation they are getting into,
• having returned from foreign work in an exploitative situation and consequently without adequate resources to start over again in Nepal. We assess the people, their current living situation, their skills and willingness to make changes and then we link them with an existing organization or individuals who can offer direct training and life skills support. For example:
Currently we are working closely with women in earthquake-affected regions in order to give skills training in their own home areas, so that they have the opportunity to improve their lives. This can include skills in organic farming, weaving, bee keeping, knitting, driving, electrician training and commercial cleaning. Then, if they later choose to come to the city or to migrate, they will have skills and confidence which will help them achieve their goals without being prone to abuse. The focus of our organization is to utilize natural, organic processes and products wherever feasible, because of the importance of the preservation of the environment, for the purpose of sustainable development of country without reliance on third parties/countries to supply seed or farming and raw materials to maintain regular supply and demand. Mountain, Hill, Tarai and Abroad

Because of the geography location of Nepal, there are economies which these landscapes dictate. In the mountains, the way of life is very much hard in compare to the life in plain area. Once they get expose with the easy life in town where they are access with the more opportunity for earning handful of money in-comparing to the rural village they are willing to stay in city with more facility, similarly once they influence by the beautiful dream made by agents can be easily fall on unsafe migration. Our program is to creating opportunity on natural fiber in order to create opportunity to the women/man from mountain, hill and tarai where the natural products grow that makes opportunity/options for them in staying in village and mountain. There is a constant flow of people seeking better circumstances in what is perceived to be an easier location to make a living - and ultimately to make a life. So migration (both internal and external) and its associated challenges, is a constant and complex issue for most of the people of Nepal to grapple with. Location:
Kathmandu as a transit point for migration, we are working from the center, with in Kathmandu, Jorpati-Boudha is the area where most of the factories are situated for labor work. So we are in touch with the people from 75 districts of Nepal as a preventer.
