लक्ष्मी प्रतिष्ठान विगत बाह्र वर्षदेखि विभिन्न सामाजिक तथा आर्थिक कारणले शिक्षाबाट वञ्चित बालबालिकाहरूलाई शिक्षाको पहुँचमा ल्याउने उद्देश्यसहित निरन्तर क्रियाशील संस्था हो। यस अवधिमा संस्थाले शिक्षा, संरक्षण र सामाजिक रूपान्तरणलाई केन्द्रमा राख्दै लक्षित समुदायमा दीर्घकालीन प्रभाव सिर्जना गर्ने प्रयास गर्दै आएको छ।

कार्यान्वयनको क्रममा संस्थाले विभिन्न चुनौती, अवरोध तथा असहज परिस्थितिहरूको सामना गरेको छ। केही आन्तरिक तथा बाह्य दबाब र भ्रम सिर्जना गर्ने प्रयासहरू भए तापनि, संस्थाले द्वन्द्व र विवादको मार्ग नअपनाई, संयम, सतर्कता र संस्थागत नैतिकतालाई प्राथमिकता दिँदै आफ्ना मूल उद्देश्यहरूमा केन्द्रित रहन निर्णय गर्‍यो। यस रणनीतिले अभियानको निरन्तरता र लक्षित समुदायप्रतिको उत्तरदायित्व सुनिश्चित गर्‍यो।

Kanda and Laxmi Pratishthan: A Journey of Transformation

Nestled in the rugged terrains of Chitwan District, Kanda, a remote village in Raptimunicipality-13, stands as one of the most underserved regions in Nepal. Home to a predominantly Chepang community, with a few Tamang families, Kanda faces unimaginable hardships. Despite its beauty, this village lacks basic infrastructure—there is no electricity, no motorable roads, and minimal access to healthcare. The villagers must endure a grueling 3-4 hour trek on foot just to access essential goods like paracetamol when someone falls ill. Tragically, many women lose their lives during childbirth due to the lack of medical facilities. The situation for women and children is especially heartbreaking.
While the world’s most developed nations are setting their sights on colonizing the Moon, the children of Kanda are still forced to survive on wild fruits, and tragic news of deaths caused by poisonous mushrooms due to food scarcity continues to surface. The situation seemed hopeless until Laxmi Pratishthan took a bold step.
The Spark of Change: The Kanda Transformation Campaign
In 2011, after hearing about the dire conditions in Kanda, journalists from Chitwan brought the plight of this village to the attention of Laxmi Pratishthan. Moved by the severity of the situation, the organization quickly dispatched a team to Kanda. Under the leadership of the Pratishthan's Treasurer and journalist Ekala Silwal, a six-member team conducted an extensive four-day study of the village. The findings led to the launch of the "Kanda Transformation Campaign"—a comprehensive initiative aimed at addressing the challenges faced by the people of Kanda.
The vision was clear: to uplift Kanda by providing its inhabitants with the tools to ensure food security, shelter, education, and self-sufficiency.

A New Dawn: Transforming Kanda
Since its inception in 2012, the Kanda Transformation Campaign has brought tangible changes to the lives of local residents. Within just two years, Laxmi Pratishthan started constructing a residential hostel for children, offering them not just free shelter but a safe, nurturing environment to learn and grow. The project has expanded over time to provide essential resources like solar-powered lights, clothing, seeds for agriculture, and vocational training for the youth.
In the first year itself, the villagers, inspired by the campaign, planted thousands of fruit trees, while the construction of safe homes began. To date, 74 homes have been built with materials provided by the campaign. In 2015, a 200-bed hostel was completed to accommodate children who would otherwise have no access to education beyond the primary level. The hostel provides full amenities and operates entirely for free. Additionally, children in the area continue their studies at the Kandeswari Basic School. For those pursuing secondary education, another hostel was set up in Chauri Deurali-4, Kavre in 2018, with studies continuing at the Saraswati Secondary School.
Empowering Youth: Skills, Education, and Self-Sufficiency
The Kanda Transformation Campaign isn’t just about providing immediate relief; it’s about creating a sustainable future. Every child above class 8 is required to spend one hour each day working on a vocational skill. The program aims to equip them with skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
These children are organized into groups and engaged in small businesses, with 90% of the earnings used for their daily needs and the rest saved into a Children's Fund. This fund will be used for higher education or to help youth start their own businesses once they graduate. Those who complete their education and vocational training will receive help in building their own homes within Kanda.
The project also focuses on agriculture. Local farmers are provided with training in organic farming techniques, as well as access to high-quality seeds, saplings, fertilizers, and water management resources. The goal is for Kanda to become 100% self-sufficient in food production.

A Model Village: Kanda as a Beacon of Sustainability
With the help of local communities, Laxmi Pratishthan is creating a model village near the Kumar Balram Memorial Hostel. This village will include houses equipped with modern amenities such as toilets, gardens, well-managed rooms, and kitchens. The development will also feature a park, gym, yoga center, and meditation halls, offering both physical and spiritual well-being for residents and visitors alike.
Additionally, small-scale hydroelectricity will be generated from local water resources, making the village energy self-sufficient. Traditional tools like grinding stones, mortars, and water taps will add to the charm, preserving Kanda's cultural heritage. A beautiful 1 km walking trail with flowering plants will make the village even more inviting for visitors while showcasing the region’s natural beauty.
Kanda: A Hidden Gem for Eco-Tourism
Kanda is poised to become an eco-tourism haven, offering a pristine environment and a glimpse into a sustainable, traditional way of life. The village will offer organic fruits, vegetables, wild mushrooms, honey, dairy products, and locally made specialties like gundruk, sinki, tama, akbare khursani, and mule chhuse. The natural beauty of the region will further enhance its appeal—visitors will be captivated by the sight of rhododendron flowers in spring and stunning views of the Himalayas, hills, and the plains of the Terai.
The village will also offer adventure tourism with activities such as hiking, rock climbing, and trekking. For those seeking a deeper connection with nature, there will be options for forest walks, meditation retreats, and yoga workshops.
Kanda’s Unique Spiritual and Cultural Appeal
Kanda’s appeal will also extend to spiritual seekers. The village will house dedicated meditation halls, and small hermitages for visitors seeking a peaceful retreat. In addition, there will be areas for cultural performances showcasing the traditional arts, including dances, music, and rituals. The village will remain a sanctuary for those seeking peace, spirituality, and connection with nature.

A Glorious Future for Kanda
The ultimate goal of the Kanda Transformation Campaign is to create a village where children receive an education, youth gain skills and self-reliance, and everyone has access to a secure, comfortable home. With agriculture, eco-tourism, and local businesses thriving, Kanda will become a beacon of sustainability and self-sufficiency.
As the campaign progresses, the dream is that Kanda will no longer be a forgotten village, but a thriving community attracting visitors from around the world—tourists, volunteers, and even investors—eager to experience the unique charm and sustainable living that Kanda offers.

In Nepal, this girls' dormitory is being replaced with a brand new building, furniture and study space. The current dormitory was built as a temporary structure after the 2015 Nepal earthquake. The walls are thin plywood, with no insulation, making for a very cold space overnight (the hostel is in the foothills of the Himalayas and is very cold for parts of the year). The new building will be much warmer and more comfortable. Photos to follow when the building work is complete!

एकाकार भए राष्ट्र निर्माणमा जुटौ।

हाम्रो नेपाल विश्वमै अद्दितीय अद्धभुत र अपम्पार छ।यहाँ जस्तै जात-जाति धर्म,संस्कार,संस्कृति, सभ्यता र भाईचारा अन्य देशमा कमै होला। विश्वमै उत्कृष्ट सम्पदा,श्रोत,विशिष्ट भुगोल सम्पन्नशाली छ नेपाल ।जल, जंगल्र र जडिबुटीको जगत भने फरक पर्दैन नेपाललाई। सीमानाका रुपमा भुपरीवेष्टित छौ तर भुगर्भिक श्रोतको भण्डार माथी छौ। हामी विनाशकारी आणविक शक्ति राष्ट्र हैनौ तर दुई आणविक शक्तिको विचमा मित्रतुल्य बसेका छौ।हाम्रो देशको जनसंख्या कम होला तर विश्वकै एक तिहाई जनसंख्याको विचमा छौ यसैको माध्यमले सम्वृद्धि खोज्ने हो भने पनि विश्वमै एक नम्बरको पर्यटकीय राष्ट्र हुन् सक्छ नेपाल ।
बिडम्वना !
देशमा लोकतन्त्रीय व्यबस्था लागु हुनु ठुलो उपलब्धि हो तर त्यसले आर्जन गरेको उपलब्धिको आडमा केही बर्गको फाईदाकालागि बिधि बनाई देशभरको श्रोत चुस्नु महांअपराध हो। सत्ता र शक्तिको मतले मातिएका केही आराजक राजनीतिज्ञ भनौदाहरु र केही राष्ट्र सेवक भनिने तर राष्ट शोषण गर्ने उदण्ड झुण्डहरुको रजगज चल्नु हाम्रो दुर्भाग्य हो ! यतिबेला हाम्रो देशमा भ्रष्टाचार,बेथिती र घुषखोरी चरम सीमामा छ। राजनीतिज्ञहरुलाई रुझाएर विभिन्न बिधि बनाई आफुलाई जनताका सेवक नभई विधाता ठान्ने अति बलवान र स्थाई बनेर देशको नशा नशामा फैलिएका केही पिपासु धमिराहरुको कारण यो अबस्था आएको हो। फलत: गरिखाने वातावरण नभएर प्राय युवाहरु विदेशिने क्रम जारीछ।सयौं गाउँ युवा सुन्य भएकाछन। धेरै ठाउँका उर्वर भुमी सिरु, सल्ला र बनामाराले ढाकीसकेको छ।आजकाल गाउँ घरमा कतै मरि-मराउ परे पनि लास उठ्दैन। गाउँमा बचेखुचेका बृद्धहरुले बल्लतल्ल खाडल खनेर रक्ष्याँन मुनि गाड्नुपर्ने भयावह अवस्था छ।
हामी बाँच्नकालागि आफ्ना सन्तानको श्रमलाई खाडीमा बेचेर प्राप्त रिमिट्यान्सले आयातित अन्न किनेर खान बाध्य छौ।हाम्रो हवाई आड्डा छोरा छोरी खेदाउने ठाउँ र घाईते भएर फर्किएका सन्तानको व्हिल चिएर,स्ट्रेचर देखि कफिन बेष्टित लाश भित्र्याउने बन्दरगाह भैरहेको छ। के यो कहालीलाग्दो अबस्था हैन र ?
हुनत रानीतिज्ञका रुपमा होस् वा राष्ट्र सेवकका रुपमा होस् अझै पनि आफ्नो राष्ट्र र समाजलाईनै सर्वोपरी मानी कर्तब्य पथमा सक्रिय सेवकहरु पनि प्रशस्तै हुनुहुन्छ र उहांहरु हरेकदिन राम्रो गर्न प्रयास पनि गर्दै हुनुहुन्छ तर हाम्रो दुर्भाग्य उहाँहरुलाई माफियाहरुले किनारामा पुर्याएका छन्।फलत: हामी हिराको राश माथि बसेर भिख मागेर भ्रष्टाचार गर्ने देशको पहिचान भिर्न बाध्य छौ ।
त्यसैले अबका दिन यस्तो विकृति हटाउन युवाहरुले बाहिरिएर नभई देश भित्रै रहेर फैलिदै गरेको त्यो घिनलाग्दो फोहोरलाई मेटाउन जरुरी छ। सुमार्गमा हिड्नेहरु एक जुट भएर कु-मार्गमा लाग्नेहरुलाई निरुत्साहित पार्न अबिलम्ब थाल्नु पर्छ । सबै देश प्रेमिहरुले अब आइन्दा कुनैपनि भष्ट्रचारी संग संगत नगरौ,त्यस्ताहरु संग बैबाहिक सम्बन्ध नजोडौ,आफ़्नो स्वर्थ सिद्ध गर्न आफै माथि गद्धार गरेर उनीहरुलाई सम्मान नगरौ बरु शिघ्रादी शिघ्र तिरष्कार गर्न थालौ।भ्रष्टचारीहरुलाई सामाजिक रुपमै घृणा र बहिष्कार गर्न थालौं।भ्रष्टचारीहरुलाई सामुहिक रुपमै घृणा र बहिष्कार थालौं सुशासन आफै कायम हुनेछ।ति निन्दनीय देशद्रोहीहरुलाई परास्त गर्न सक्ने सबैभन्दा ठुलो हतियार यो नै हुन सक्छ।
यतिबेला बहुसंख्यक नेपालीहरु पनि संसारका सम्पन्न देशमा पुगेर संघर्ष गर्दै सफलता हासिल गरी सम्बृद्ध जीवन विताउन सफल हुनुभएको छ,त्यो हामी सबैको गर्वको कुरा हो। अब उहाँहरुलाई पनि अनुरोध गरौ, उहांहरुरुले सम्पन्न देशमा हासिल गर्नुभएको ज्ञान, क्षमता, संचित श्रोत र सम्पतीलाई देशमै भित्याएर लगानी गर्दै रोजगारी उत्पादन गरेर जनतालाई सक्षम बनाई कुलंघारहरुले छियाछिया बनाएको देश निर्माणमा जुट्नु हुनेछ र त्यो देशकैलागि ठुलो उपलब्धि हुनेछ भने त्यो राष्ट्र रुपान्तरनको महाँयज्ञ सावित हुनेछ। यसर्थ कुकर्मीहरुको दुष्कर्मलाई दोहोलो पार्दै सबैजना एकबद्द भएर समुन्नत नेपाल र पौरखी नेपालीको पहिचान सहित संयुक्त रुपमा राष्ट्र निर्माणमा जुटौ। हामीलाई राष्ट्र निर्माणको गौरव प्राप्त हुनेछ।सबैकोजय होस्!

The Indoor Sports Academy will provide young people with access to quality sports facilities, training, and mentorship, fostering physical fitness, teamwork, and discipline. We were deeply honored to welcome Neela Kayastha Mam and Mila Shakya Mam, a dedicated donor from Laxmi Pratisthan and esteemed member of our valued partner organization, the San Antonio Nepalese Association - SANA to the Kumar Balram Memorial Free Hostel, Kavre Branch! Neela Mam's visit was a special occasion as she had the opportunity to personally meet with all the children who have been supported through SANA's impactful Project Kopila. 💖 Witnessing the joy and gratitude on the faces of these children was truly heartwarming.

Moreover, we are immensely grateful to Neela Mam and her Mr.Kailash Kayastha Sir, for their extraordinary generosity in contributing towards the construction of a cottage at the hostel . Their kindness and dedication towards improving the lives of these children exemplify the spirit of community and compassion. 🙏
