Recently, I started adding a tiny bit of lemon juice 🍋💦💦 (1/3 a teaspoon) to my dogs’ diet - a few days a week only. My dogs are not fussy eaters 🙈 so they don’t mind the tartness of the lemon with their dal, bhat, masu, and tarkari lunch meals 🍛
Many websites out there say lemon juice is toxic, but if it’s fed in a small amount, lemons are safe for your dogs. So, the serving size matters.
Below are the reasons why I added them to my dogs’ meal and a few pointers we need to be aware of:
🍋 Lemons are naturally high in Vitamin C and potassium, which may promote the dog's immune system, wound healing, and proper functioning of muscles and nerves.
💦 Make sure to wash the fruit thoroughly before using it, as they most lemons sold these days are sprayed with pesticide.
❌ However, never feed your pet the peels, seeds, leaves, stems or other plant parts.
So, lemon and lemon juice are entirely safe for your dogs to consume in small amounts. Although, dogs may not like it because of its sourness 🤪
However, consuming too much citric acid can upset your dogs’ stomach, so the serving size matters!
