The Good Leadership

The Good Leadership The Good Leadership supports youth to maximize their potential for their growth.

It is an initiative of Together for Nepal, Bright Star Society, and ENGAGE, 3 not for profit organizations working in Nepal. The Good Leadership is a new initiative that aims not only at developing new skills and competencies but also at creating new knowledge, new ideas that are at the crossroads between cutting edge leadership practices and insights and innovative public policies. In short, we a

re a hodgepodge of “different stuff” that are important to support youths to achieve their potential while also contributing to the society. We believe that every single youth has a natural potential and a wealth in strengths that are too often neglected or not fully leveraged. Our Vision

Youth, especially the “underdogs”, are driven to shine and thrive while taking a stand as civic leaders, addressing the most challenging issues of our times. Our Mission

It is The Young Enthusiastic Good Leaders Program!!!!!

It is going to be a bit demanding

It is going to be a bit intensive

It is going to be A LOT fun
Thematic areas (basically the MOST important STUFF):

Leadership Foundations • Inclusion and Disability Rights • Democracy and Good Governance • Ethical AI • Climate Governance • Business and Human Rights • International Relations

How will work:

All the YE-GLs will build, in an initial phase, a foundational knowledge about all the above mentioned areas and later, they will develop a specialization on two of them.

Participants will also receive support to develop an OP-ED article and will present their learning during a final workshop.

Application Deadline: 18 August 2026

Program begins: 28 August 2026

15 sessions (Friday afternoon and Saturday half day)

Venue: Lazimpat

Fee: 1500 NRS (veg snacks will be provided)

Volunteers made the difference at JUST AI Peer Review of Recommendations for Ethical AI ACT:

Often too much discounted and taken for granted, volunteers play a HUGE role when events are organized.

When last Monday we organized our Peer Review on our draft recommendations for Nepal AI Act, students from Islington College Kathmandu did step UP, BIG TIME!

Thanks to Sadikshya Lamichhane, Suditi Shrestha, Garimaa Pandey

Alson Shrestha, Kiran Dahal, Achhurna Kafle, Om Dangol and Raunak Sharma for helping us, you took care of small things, small details but these "small" things, especially in event management, COUNT A LOT!!!

You played a very important role, maybe boring like welcoming the guests, showing them the way, registering their names, go to get our amazing SOMOSAS etc... you were super available and super nice, really.

It is always good for The Good Leadership and for me personally to interact and meet you!

THE GOOD LEADERSHIP: JUST TRANSITION AT CLIMATE POLICY DIALOGUE
Here a huge praise for Binita Rai, another member of our Community of Practitioners on Climate Governance, "Getting Climate COPs Right!!!"

Sushil Adhikari and I do really appreciate the strong commitment, determination shown by Binita and how she pushed herself throughout the sessions, getting outside of her comfort zone, proving how capable she is.

Thanks Binita for inspiring and showing the way.

Now a few lines on what Binita focused on during our Climate Policy Conversation:

Binita Rai served as the panel moderator and a presenter, delivering a session on the Just Transition Mechanism (JTM).
Her presentation covered the concept of just transition and its importance in ensuring a fair and inclusive shift towards low-carbon, climate-resilient development, the distinction between the Just Transition Work Programme (JTWP) and the Just Transition Mechanism (JTM), the establishment of the JTWP at COP27 and its further development under the UAE JTWP at COP28, the adoption of the dedicated JTM at COP30, key areas of disagreement between developed and developing countries, including mitigation versus adaptation, private investment versus grant-based finance, and unilateral green trade measures such as the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), comparative case studies of Germany's coal phase-out model and Nepal's climate-resilient development pathway, the governance of the JTM under SBSTA and SBI, its modalities including biannual high-level dialogues and annual ministerial roundtables, and the approved work plan emphasizing labour rights, decent work, social dialogue, Indigenous Peoples' rights, gender equality, and international technical support.
She concluded by highlighting the relevance of the Just Transition Mechanism for Nepal, emphasizing the need to integrate just transition principles into national climate policies, create green and decent jobs, strengthen climate resilience, and ensure that vulnerable communities are supported throughout the transition toward a sustainable future.

Of course, a big thanks to Atal Dev Dhakal and Sreejana Adhikari for their participation and commitment and actually a big thanks to Sreejana for having brought on board Binita (the two are buddy buddy at college, what a wonderful thing, after all smarts people are attracted by smart people)

THE GOOD LEADERSHIP: AN INDIGEOUS RIGHTS PERSPECTIVE AT CLIMATE CONVERSATION WITH SABNAM
Sabnam Lama, a student of social work, indigenous rights activist who was also a key participant at Climate Governance 101, jointly organized by WE-Women from Indigenous Nationalities (WE-WIN) and The Good Leadership, presented at the recently held Climate Conversation organized by the Community of Practitioners on Climate Governance, "Getting Climate COPs Right" led by Atal Dev Dhakal,Sreejana Adhikari and Binita Rai, an initiative by The Good Leadership.

Sabnam Lama served as a speaker, sharing her experiences and insights on Indigenous youth engagement in global climate governance.
Her presentation covered the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) and the United Nations Global Indigenous Youth Forum (UNGIYF), their roles in advancing the voices of Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous youth, their contributions to shaping recommendations and influencing UN processes, Indigenous rights including land, territories, self-determination, culture, biodiversity, gender, and climate justice, the role of UNGIYF in fostering Indigenous youth leadership on climate change, biodiversity, food systems, and intergenerational collaboration, and the importance of recognizing Indigenous Peoples as knowledge holders and frontline leaders in ecosystem protection and climate action.
She concluded by emphasizing that meaningful climate action must uphold Indigenous rights, protect traditional knowledge and territories, and strengthen Indigenous youth leadership and participation across local, national, and international climate policy processes.

Sabnam's bio:
Sabnam Lama is an Indigenous Tamang youth leader and intersectional feminist researcher from Nepal. Her work focuses on climate justice, Indigenous land rights, migration, displacement, biodiversity, and gender equality through community-led research and policy advocacy. As the Founder and President of Focus for Indigenous Girls (FIG), she leads initiatives on hydropower impacts, just transition, and Indigenous women's leadership. She has engaged in global policy processes including the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) and the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF), advocating for Indigenous rights and community-informed climate and migration governance. She also serves as a member of the Indigenous Youth Working Group for the 2026 UN Global Indigenous Youth Forum (UNGIYF), contributing to youth-led processes on Indigenous food systems, biodiversity, and sustainable development.
