THE GOOD LEADERSHIP: START BUILDING YOUR EXPERTISE IN CLIMATE ACTION...

We are coming soon with a new exciting opportunity for local youths living in the Kathmandu Valley, a platform to start understanding what is happening at the COPs and much more actually!

If we are one thing that perhaps The Good Leadership is pretty ok at doing is connecting things, linking dots and asking a lot of probing questions.

In this new learning opportunity, what we call a Community of Practitioners or CP, the participants, will take the LEAD and our questions will support their process of learning and growth.

How we are broadening the horizons and connecting the dots?

For example, we will zoom out and touch ongoing geopolitical crises, especially the war in the Gulf Region. Maybe this stuff is taken for granted by some but still...

Now why not start understanding what is stake right now and the opportunity that the current crisis in the Gulf could provide to reboot and boost climate action?

"Renewables deliver climate security, energy security and national security” said the UN Secretary-General for the release of the WMO's State of the Global Climate 2025 report, released on 23 March 2026.

He continued:

🤦‍♀️"The report confirms that the Earth’s energy imbalance – the gap between heat absorbed and heat released – is the highest on record.

🤢"In other words, our planet is trapping heat faster than it can shed it".

🤦‍♂️"Greenhouse gas concentrations are higher than at any point in hundreds of thousands of years. Global temperatures continue to rise".

😢"And in this age of war, climate stress is also exposing another truth: our addiction to fossil fuels is destabilizing both the climate and global security. Now more than ever, we must accelerate a just transition to renewable energy. Renewables deliver climate security, energy security and national security".

THE GOOD LEADERSHIP: IS REGIONAL COOOPERATION WORTHY TO BE PURSUED IN SOUTH EAST ASIA? YOUTHS SHOULD HAVE A SAY....

While in Nepal we are not focusing on stuff related to regional cooperation/regional integration and geopolitics, well this is an area we do sometimes cover when we work with the students of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).

We always support a process of self-inquiry and discovery where participants leverages our inputs to define some key threads of thought and end up formulating some opinions.

This is an approach we use in all the topics we focus on, no lecturing, not at all!!!! Instead we do share some insights and we facilitate a broad conversation.

At the end we often find out that issues, apparently disconnected from each other, are instead very much interlinked and yes regional cooperation in the South East Asia and elsewhere can really make a difference.

And YES YOUTHS SHOULD HAVE A VOICE.....especially in the ASEAN space....

And this is only the beginning... More good stuff focused on youths for Nepal are being finalized.... stay tuned..

CLIMATE LITIGATION COMMUNITY OF PRACTITIONERS:
(And it is not only for students of law!!!!).
A few more days to grab a unique opportunity to start building some technical and practical knowledge on climate litigation.

THE SESSIONS WILL BE HELD IN PERSON IN KATHMANDU ALONG 5 SATURDAY MORNINGS.

Why is this initiative so relevant:
- Climate litigation is one of the best ways to fight climate justice.
- Climate litigation is becoming bigger and bigger but it's still (relatively) new to Nepal and it has a huge untapped potential
- As a community of Practitioners, members will be supported to work with peers and lead their expertise building process.
- It has been co-designed by some of the most brilliant climate justice minds in Nepal
- It will blend theory with practice!!!

THE GOOD LEADERSHIP: DISCUSSING THE POSSIBLE IMPACTS OF AI

Last week we had another interesting sessions with the students of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) on the latest developments of AI. We reviewed and discussed the opportunities and challenges of AI in specific fields.

We focused on few areas: democracy, job market and also the importance of banning AI generating “nudyfing images”.

But to start with we reviewed some scenarios, starting from the Doomsday Clock (https://thebulletin.org/doomsday-clock/) and also some possible evolutions of AI in 2027 prepared by Daniel Kokotajlo, Scott Alexander, Thomas Larsen, Eli Lifland, Romeo Dean (https://ai-2027.com/)

What did we discuss?

For example, in relation to democracy, we revised a recent study published in Science (https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adz1697) with AI bots acting as swarm of autonomous agents attacking democratic institutions.

In relation to the job market, we also discussed how Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of IMF recently warned, during the WEF in Davos, that the introduction and deployment of AI can really wipe out lots of job (AI ‘tsunami’ will hit job market, young and middle class will suffer most: IMF chief).

And even one of the biggest bankers, Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase's also gave a very strong warning about the massive issues that AI can cause in the job market ( https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/jan/21/rollout-ai-slowed-save-society-jp-morgan-jamie-dimon-jensen-huang).

We discussed the nefarious impact of GROCK AI bot who was embedded in Xai with a new feature of “nudyfing”images…on this regards we reviewed also the UK Online Safety Act and its provisions (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/online-safety-act-explainer/online-safety-act-explainer).

We also briefly reviewed the recently released Claude’s Constitution created by Anthropic (https://www.anthropic.com/constitution?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email) and also the latest essay by Dario Amodei, the CEO of Atrophic who, “The Adolescence of Technology”( https://www.darioamodei.com/essay/the-adolescence-of-technology).

He is among the big “sharks” pursuing AGI, is sensitive about potential very negative impact of AI.

Of course we should have talked about the impact of AI on education, health and climate…. But each of these are huge areas

THE GOOD LEADERSHIP: WITH AI TECH SURGING, CRITICAL THINKING WILL BE MORE & MORE ESSENTIAL
Happy that today we have facilitated a new session with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) on the role of critical thinking to do great things in the society.

Inevitably, we ended up focusing a lot of the impact of AI, reviewing studies that show how over reliance on AI tools is notably and adversely impacting the critical thinking skills of many students.

We discussed, in this regard, of the concept of cognitive offloading where we ended up doing less efforts, taking " shortcuts" that are, in no way, helping us to critically think, learn and build know-how and expertise.

We also read stories, went thorough opinion pieces like the op-ed written by David Brooks, the famous opinion writer for the New York Times, entitled " Are We Willing to Become Dumper" (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/03/opinion/aritificial-intelligence-education.html)

And we also read a great essay "We Need to Chat(GPT)" written by Olivia Han, 16, of Newport High School in Bellevue, Wash. one of the Top 10 winners of The Learning Network’s Student Open Letter Contest. It is really good because describes how the author realized she became over dependent on Chat GPT (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/18/learning/we-need-to-chat-gpt.html)

The session was interactive with some hard questions and probing, because analyzing news and insights is key to think and do great things.

THE GOOD LEADERSHIP: ON THE QUEST TO PREPARE SOME RECCOMANDATIONS FOR ETHICAL AI

Phase 2 of Just AI is proceeding where a miniscule group of participants from Phase 1 are engaged in analyzing in details the current AI legislations.

It is a demanding process played out in informal settings where we can talk, discuss and analyze. Over the last 3 weeks, we had 3 meetings and the work is moving on.....

Kudos to those members of our JUST AI Community of Practitioners who have decided to continue this journey, thanks to Kebal Badal and Suvam Yadav and of course a big thanks to Anjali Sah for her dedication and leadership in coordinating all this effort.
