Nepal Society of the Disabled (NSD) is a non-profit non-governmental organization established by persons with disabilities (PWDs) in 1995. It was registered at the District Administration Office (DAO) Kathmandu in 1995 and is also affiliated with Social Welfare Council (SWC). From the very beginning of its establishment, NSD as a disability rights organization has been working actively for the rig

hts of PWDs throughout the country. To fulfill the objectives of the organization, NSD has been coordinating and collaborating with different stakeholders and other like-minded organizations at local, district, national and international levels. These objectives intend to empower PWDs for independent livelihood and uplift their status in society through capacity development, awareness building, and policy advocacy. Policy advocacy, in particular, emphasize promoting disabled-friendly national laws and policies in line with international human rights standards and their effective implementation. NSD believes in the comprehensive development of all kinds of disabled through the mobilization of existing resources and opportunities at an optimum level. NSD is committed to empowering the PWDs and making them capable of living a dignified and respectful life directed towards nation-building through active and meaningful participation. NSD has been proactively working in various developmental sectors to protect and promote the rights PWDs and for their better livelihood. Awareness raising, leadership development, providing skill-based training or vocational training, research and study to explore the disabilities issues, lobby/advocacy, networking, etc.
