In July 1992, Nepal Eye Program, a community-based, non-government organization was officially launched with the aim of supporting prevention and control of blindness in Nepal. Its implementing body TIO was operated from June 1994. Delivering high volume low cost cataract surgeries with rapid recovery time is Tilganga’s most successful surgical technique in Non Hospital settings – a flag-ship endeavor which has been locally and internationally recognized. The quality services offered in the process are respected by all. TIO believes that knowledge and skill transfer is significantly necessary to sustain any achievements. A number of technical and non technical innovations were introduced during the time. The organization has been thinking seriously about sustainable way of serving and enacting innovations in the broad interest of eye-patients. TIO believes that all patients should receive the same high quality care, regardless of their means and background.
