Collaborative Meeting held between Sustainable Development Solution Network (SDSN) and Himalayan University Consortium (HUC) Secretariat

The two global membership-based secretariat conducted a collaborative meeting for hosting SDSN Country Office in Nepal. From SDSN Ms. Amirah Majid (Senior Manager, Asia Pacific Lead, SDSN) stated the procedures of collaboration with SDSN. We are also thankful to Mr. Gautham Varada Narayan (Manager, Asia Pacific region, SDSN) for further explaining the ways of collaborations.
The meeting was also in presence of Professor Purna Nepali who played a pivotal role for arranging for such collaboration. The meeting was also in collaboration with Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM) Policy Lab who stated purposive role along with Dr. Lal Bahadur Pun and Mr. Abhishek Bhattarai.
The Himalayan University Consortium (HUC) Secretariat Interim member Secretariat Prof. Dr. Bim Prasad Shrestha and Mr. Gunjan Khanal look forward to collaborate on multiple thematic areas leading towards our common aspirations and common goal for the sustainable mountain future of Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region.

Himalayan University Consortium (HUC) Meets with SAARC Secretariat

The Himalayan University Consortium (HUC) Secretariat at Kathmandu University met the SAARC Secretariat at its secretariat office in Kathmandu today. The meeting was led by the member secretary, Prof. Bim Shrestha, along with the office coordinator Gunjan Khanal. A presentation was made to the Director of Social Affairs of the SAARC Secretariat, Ms. Shahiya Ali Manik.

Ms. Manik stated multiple collaboration opportunities await between the SAARC Secretariat and the HUC within the Hindu Kush Himalaya. Apart from the eight countries, the Maldives and Srilanka are facing similar consequences of climate change. These countries welcome multiple opportunities for HUC to collaborate, coordinate, and communicate for the upstream and downstream of the Hindu Kush Himalaya region. The collaboration and coordination are aimed towards our common aspiration of a sustainable mountain future of the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region.

HUC would like to express its gratitude to Prof. Dr. Anjana Singh (Department of Microbiology) for the coordination. The meeting was also presented by Dr Sanjiv (Chief of Innovation at Nepal Technology Innovation Center - NTIC) along with possible collaboration and health and innovation.

Himalayan University Consortium (HUC) Secretariat at Kathmandu University Met H. E. Ambassador Dr. Danielle Meuwly
Ambassador of Switzerland to Nepal.

A delegation led by the HUC Interim Committee Member Secretary visited the Embassy of Switzerland in Nepal. The meeting was initiated with the agenda for discussing the present and future strategy of HUC. The HUC Interim Committee Chair, Prof. Achyut Wagle, PhD, led the groundwork for initiating the first meeting post-handover of the Secretariat to Kathmandu University from ICIMOD. The technical and financial plan of activities for HUC from 2026 - 2031 was shared by Bim Shrestha and presented by Gunjan Khanal. The HUC meeting with H.E. Dr. Meuwly was also on developing green hospitality standards of Nepal. A reflection of the policy review on existing green hospitality practices was briefed. Mr. Khem Lakai, Global Academy of Tourism and Hospitality Education briefed on the potential of indigenous food and its economic, social, and environmental prospects in Nepal. The meeting discussed Transitional Justice in TRC within the Nepali context. A legal perspective was shared by Sanghamita Shrestha (A law student of KUSOL). Transitional justice has been guided by a pioneer legal expert of Nepal, Prof. Dr. Surya Dhungel. We would like to extend our gratitude to H.E. Dr. Danielle Meuwly, Ambassador of Switzerland to Nepal, for your warm welcome and time. We would also like to thank Ms. Sneha Bhattarai (National Programme Officer) at the Embassy of Switzerland in Nepal.

The UNFCCC process has made important progress in recognising mountain issues. The challenge now is to translate recognition into action.
