A PLACE AT THE TABLE ❤️
From Monday to Saturday at 18:00, the doors of our Youth Life Social Justice Hub on Kamloops Road, Kalingalinga — opposite Citizens Bakery — will be open for a warm evening meal.

Whether you are a young person, a neighbour, a friend, or simply someone who needs a meal that evening, you are all welcome❤️
There is no shame in receiving. There is dignity in community, and there is something beautiful about people coming together to make sure that no one is forgotten.

We are also looking forward to introducing breakfast at the Hub soon, as more partners come alongside this growing effort.

We are grateful to Parrogate Ginneries Ltd, manufacturers of Zamanita Oil, Mama’s Peanut Spread, Perfecto Macaroni & Spaghetti, Freshpikt Tomato Sauce and Baked Beans, for joining the impact team, together with The Zambian FoodBanking Network - ZFBN.

My name is Michael Nkhosi, a community leader, mentor, social entrepreneur and founder of the Youth Life Project (YLP).
I was born and raised in Kalingalinga, Lusaka, where I grew up seeing both the strength of community and the realities of limited opportunity. Like many young people, I had to find ways to make ends meet. At one point, I was selling things in the streets of Kalingalinga. Through persistence, I eventually found my way into graphic design, a skill that opened my eyes to the power of creativity, self-reliance and opportunity.

But my journey also made me reflect deeply on the young people around me. I could see talent everywhere, but I could also see young people struggling with unemployment, substance abuse, limited access to skills, mental-health challenges, violence and a lack of spaces where they could simply believe in themselves again.

In 2015, I founded the Youth Life Project not because I had everything figured out, but because I believed that our communities deserved something better.
What started as a personal conviction has grown into a community rooted youth organisation working to create opportunities for young people through mentorship, skills development, literacy and wellbeing, sobriety and counselling, advocacy, entrepreneurship, climate justice and safe spaces for young people to discover and develop their potential.

The journey has taken YLP beyond Kalingalinga and into communities across Zambia. Along the way, I have had the privilege of working with young people, community organisations, civil society partners, development actors and institutions that share the belief that young people are not merely beneficiaries of development, they are part of the solution.

I don't claim to have arrived. I am still discovering, still growing and still asking difficult questions about what it means to serve people with integrity.
My dream is bigger than building one organisation. I want to contribute to building communities where a young person's background does not determine their future; where talent can find opportunity; where leadership is rooted in service; and where young people have the confidence, skills and platforms to shape the future they will inherit.

I carry Kalingalinga with me wherever I go.
Because I know where I came from.
And I know why I started, so the journey continues.
